Adrian wasted no time. The moment he spotted me, he inquired, "Why have you been ignoring my phone calls and messages?"
I had purposely disregarded all communication from him. I responded with a question of my own, "What brings you here?"
Adrian seemed to relax slightly as he explained, "I've been concerned, Madeline. You haven't been responding to my attempts to reach you...."
"I'm alright," I cut him off, speaking in a flat tone. "There's no need for you to worry about me." I turned away and headed back to the office to gather my belongings.
He trailed after me, his voice pleading. "But you're my spouse," he stammered. "How can I not be concerned?"
I paid him no attention. Upon reaching my desk, I looked over at Tyler, who was still working on the computer. "Doctor Graham, is there anything else you need me to do this evening?"
Tyler glanced up, a brief expression crossing his face before he replied curtly, "No, you're free to go."
