Evelyn nodded hesitantly, then shook her head, "I can work for you in exchange for–"
"Get out of my stall!" the old woman yelled, and quickly added, "otherwise I'll scream and accuse you of stealing."
Evelyn's eyes widened in shock as she backed away. "I-I'm sorry, ma'am. I didn't mean to trouble you. I'll just leave."
She's heard that when one is accused of stealing, they'd be burnt alive. The Blackmoon city has zero tolerance for stealing.
The old woman continued to glare at Evelyn's back until she disappeared several blocks away.
Breathless and shaken, Evelyn wondered what she had done to provoke the old woman's anger. She thought the old woman was nice.
Now, she was very hungry. Evelyn sat on a stone, dropping Vlad's cloak on her lap. If she had known, she wouldn't have wasted all her strength coming here. After such a long walk and a few minutes' run from just now, she was exhausted.
