"Oh… you're serious." Cater's tone dropped, the weight of her words settling over him like a suffocating blanket.

Jane walked closer to him, her eyes locking onto his. She didn't blink, didn't waver. "You're letting your feelings for Alric cloud your judgment, Cater. You're risking the prophecy itself, and if you truly care about this kingdom, you have to stop loving him. You have to stay away from him. It's the only way."
