It's still the same

In the morning, the phone rang. I was surprised because no one would call me so early. Killian was still asleep, so I carefully went out to the balcony to answer the phone.

I looked at the screen and my mother was calling me. I was surprised because she knows I'm with Killian.

Me: What's going on? Why are you calling me?

Victoria: "You forgot to say hello. Why are you talking to me in such a tone?! Where were you last night, why didn't you come back? Where is Killian? Come to us now!!!"

I have no idea what's going on. Why did we have to go back yesterday? There's no point in asking her anything.

Me: Killian is sleeping. We'll leave as soon as he wakes up.

I still had to go home to pick up my things. Today is the last time I will see them, and then I will be free. I hope my plan works and I never see them again.

I hung up the phone and was about to turn back when Killian draped his jacket over my shoulders.

Killian: "Why are you out in this cold? You'll catch a cold."

Me: Mom called and I didn't want to wake you up.

Killian: "Let's go inside, I don't want you to catch a cold."

Me: I don't get cold that easily.

We went inside. I was supposed to tell him why my mother called me, but he checked my hands to see if they were cold and I forgot everything. I'm not used to someone caring about me like this. Mia and Tim were always by my side and helped me with almost everything, but when I was sick, I was the only one who took care of myself. No one told me to dress warmly or check if I was cold. I wasn't cold anymore. My heart was beating so fast. I don't know if it's because he cares about me or because he's so close.

Killian: "Would you like something warm to drink?"

Me: No, thanks. Mom called me to come to her.

Killian: "Then let's get ready and go."

Killian had everything ready, so we left the hotel soon after.

Killian was so happy the whole way, that we didn't even know how we got home. He opened the car door for me and we went inside the house.

Everyone was gathered for breakfast and they were happy to see us. I know they are acting like they are happy to see me. They have to maintain the image of a perfect family in everyone's eyes. Maybe that's why others don't know how my family actually treat me when we are alone.

Victoria: "Good morning. You probably haven't had breakfast. Come join us and have breakfast together."

Killian: "Good morning. Thank you."

I didn't say anything. I'm tired of this game of pretending we're the perfect family. They also sat quietly and said nothing. A few more hours and then it will all be over.

Mother broke the silence.

Victoria: "We thought you would be back yesterday."

Kilian: "We were with our friends and celebrated until late at night, so we didn't go back."

Daniel: "We talked yesterday and decided that you should live here. You need to understand us, Killian, because we are worried about our daughter."

Are they worried about me? Didn't they marry me?! What are they playing at now? I'm tired of all this.

Kilian: "We need to..."

Me: I don't know who you talked to or why you made this decision, but we have other plans.

They were going to say something, but I didn't want to hear them.

Me: Killian, can you help me pack the necessary things?

Killian: "Of course I'll help you."

Killian and I immediately went to my room. I don't care what they think or what they want.

We entered the room and I made sure they didn't follow us.

Me: I'm sorry I didn't say anything and I made the decision like that. You probably think it's strange that I'm acting like that.

He suddenly hugged me. I didn't know how to react.

Killian: "I don't think you're acting strange. Don't worry, whatever decision you make, I'll be by your side. I'll always take your opinion into account."

I was about to cry, but I held back the tears.

Me: Thank you, I don't know what else to tell you. I don't know what I did to deserve you treating me so well.

Killian: "Don't say that. You deserve the best."

He helped me pack my things. I didn't pack much, just what was important and needed.

Me: Where should we live?

Killian: "We can stay in my apartment or at my parents' house. I don't want you to feel uncomfortable, so if you'd prefer, we can stay with them for a while."

I want to get to know killian's parents better. Since I've never experienced what it means to have a family, I think it would be a good experience. They love Killian very much.

Me: Okay, let's stay with your parents for a while.

I can't say I want to experience what it means to have a loving mother and father.

Killian: "Everything is ready. I'll call and tell them we're going to their house."

He went out to call them.

I'm really glad I'm leaving this house. I only have bad memories here.

Killian returned soon and helped me pack my luggage into the car.

My parents and brothers watched us from a distance. It's still the same way they look at me. Everything is visible in their eyes. I thought they would do anything to make us stay, but they are silent. I think they are afraid of Killian and his family and that is why they are silent.

My father and Henry are partners in the company. When they founded the company together, they split the shares in half. My father distributed the shares to our family members. I have them too, because it shows how much he cares for me. If he hadn't given the shares to me, people would have said that he didn't care for me and didn't love me (which is true), so that's why he did it that way. That's why I thought they would never let me go with them, because that would mean they would own more than fifty percent of shares. I know that this won't end so easily and that a big fight awaits us.

I'm sure they're already working on a new plan, because that's how they always do it. Now I understand why they wanted us to stay in this house. That way they would control us more easily.

They will do anything to break up Killian and I, so I need to find out about their agreement. I'm not going to submit to them anymore and give them the right to play with my life.

Me: Mom, Dad, and brothers. We'll be very happy when you come to visit us. Forgive me for not staying here, but we're going to start a new life.

They understood what I said. My old life is over. I'm not going to fulfill all their wishes anymore.

Victoria: "You should have stayed for at least a few days. Where are you in such a hurry?"

Yes, I'm in a hurry... I'm in a hurry to gain freedom. I want to breathe freely and not feel like a bird locked in a cage.

Me: I know you're worried about me, but you know Killian better than I do. If you weren't sure I'd be safe, you wouldn't have agreed to this marriage, right?

What do you say now? Don't you trust him? Then why did you agree to our marriage?! If you trust him then why are you nervous? I'll be safe with him, so there's no need to stay here.

Daniel: "Of course we trust him, but don't you know that parents' hearts are always worried about their children."

I'm going to feel sick now. I always dreamed of being treated well and taken care of, but I know that will never happen. They never loved me and they never will, it will always be that way.

Killian: "I know it's so hard for you to part with her. Especially when you have such a good daughter. You can see her anytime you want. You'll see her often in the company, too, so don't worry too much."

Me: It's time for us to leave. I'll call you often.

I will never do this, but I am playing the role of a good daughter for the last time.

Victoria: "Well, my sweet child, we will call you often. We miss you so much already. We don't know how we will live without you."

I've always been waiting to hear these words, but I know they're not sincere. I always thought that one day everything would change and they wouldn't act like this anymore, but everything is still the same.

It's still the same.... but I changed.
