No Innocent Scapegoat

Lariette didn't let her chance encounter with Alaric bother her, unwilling to ruin her morning. She knew the man wouldn't risk causing a ruckus in his own workplace.

Alaric had more to lose if he decided to shout and taunt Lariette like how he often did in the Elsher family home. He wouldn't ever let his colleagues and subordinates see him as a bully.

"Miss Lariette Elsher, please come in."

Lariette and Ruediger had just sat on the bench chairs lining one side of the hallway when the nurse called for the former, addressing the lady using the name registered on the hospital record.

"Yes, I'm coming."

Rising to her feet, Lariette glanced at Ruediger while saying, "Wait for me here. The checkup shouldn't be long."

Even though Ruediger himself offered to accompany her today, Lariette felt bad if he had a long wait. He said he took the day off work just to chaperone her to the hospital.
