More Meaningful When She's by His Side

When it was time to head to the counter, Ruediger brought along the apron with the little red bird embroidery. He smiled teasingly at Lariette whose cheeks almost resembled the color of the bird.

"I will pay!"

Lariette hurriedly tapped her card on the payment terminal machine once the cashier announced the total amount of their purchases. She grinned triumphantly at the sight of Ruediger's helpless smile.

"Lettie, we can take turns paying, you know."

Ruediger said to Lariette as he shouldered the reusable shopping bag, glancing at her who also had one. They walked away from the counter, back to the summer heat outside the grocery store.

Chuckles spilled from Lariette's lips. Tucking a strand of hair behind her ear, she smiled at Ruediger, "Hehe, alright~ The next time we're shopping for groceries, I'll let you pay."

Ruediger nodded once, refraining from looking too eager. He liked the idea of going shopping for groceries with Lariette again.
