CH: 29 One More Treasure Under the Belt

[Chapter: 29 One More Treasure Under the Belt]

A large number of soldiers rushed toward the Hydra headquarters from the jungle at the foot of the mountain, and a fierce exchange of bullets and fire with the Hydra soldiers occurred. The entire headquarters was in chaos, with sounds of shootings, shouts, and people charging at each other.

Schmidt ran quickly, knowing that the base could fall at any time. Fortunately, he had been ready for a scenario like this.

A large bat-shaped plane approached as Schmidt ran over and quickly got into it.

Bang! Bang!

The Hydra soldiers were firing wildly at the front, but the American soldiers had already entered and begun their own attacks.

Steve, holding his shield, ran toward the front in a frantic manner. Wherever he went, Hydra soldiers were struck and flew into the air, but no one could stop Steve and his charge.

The large bat-type aircraft had already started, and its wheels began to run rapidly on the runway. Steve pushed himself to run behind the aircraft.

Although Steve had reached the speed limit of human beings, he was still too slow to match the speed of an aircraft.

"Come up," a car pulled up and stopped next to Steve.

"Colonel Phillips," Steve nodded, then jumped into the car.

The car then chased after the plane, moving just as fast on the runway, because it was Schmidt's favorite car, powered by the same energy.

The front door opened, and after a while, the plane was about to take off.

"Go," Phillips called to Steve.

"Yes." Steve nodded.

The moment the plane rushed out of the gate, Steve leapt from the car and grabbed onto one of the plane's wheels.

The plane ascended, and the wheels slowly retracted. Steve used the retraction of the wheels to climb inside the plane.

Inside, Steve fought back and forth with Hydra soldiers and finally reached the main cockpit, quietly opening the door and walking toward it.

Boom!

A roar echoed, and Steve turned quickly, using his shield to block a blue energy attack.

Schmidt pointed his gun at Steve. "You don't give up easily, do you?"

"That's right." Steve rushed toward Schmidt, tanking him with the shield.

Schmidt fired his gun at Steve, but it was blocked by Steve's shield.

Boom!

Steve yelled as his shield hit Schmidt, sending him flying a few meters back. Schmidt suddenly stood up and charged at Steve again.

The blows were relentless, punches and kicks exchanged. Though Schmidt had been injected with an incomplete version of the serum, his strength was on par with that of William and Steve.

Boom!

Schmidt was blasted away by Steve, hitting the steel, his face torn open to reveal the raw red flesh underneath, but no blood flowed.

"Your face," Steve frowned.

"My face? It's time for you to see my true face," Schmidt screamed, grabbing his face with one hand and tearing off his mask.

Schmidt's head had become a red skull, devoid of skin and only exposed muscle. It was a grotesque sight. "I am the Red Skull Schmidt."

"Red Skull? That name fits you perfectly," Steve rushed forward.

The two scuffled again. During a confrontation, they collided with the joystick, causing the plane to fall from an altitude of 10,000 meters and begin its descent.

"Fuck," Schmidt cursed.

"Sir Schmidt, keep fighting. I'll take control of the plane," a voice called.

"William." Schmidt and Steve both turned to see the person slowly approaching.

"Yep, it's me," William said, walking to the controls, quickly adjusting a few buttons, and stabilizing the plane.

"William, you're here. Help me kill this guy," Schmidt shouted.

William smiled. "As you wish."

William walked up to Schmidt. "Captain, it's been a long time."

Steve glared angrily at William. "William, the crimes you've committed are uncountable. Today, I will bring you to justice."

"That sounds like some serious resentment," William chuckled. "To calm you down for now, I'm going to show you something interesting."

"Something interesting?" Schmidt and Steve froze, confused.

Pechak!

"Ah!" Schmidt cried out, unable to believe it as he looked down at a knife stuck in his back. He turned to William in disbelief. "Why?"

William twisted the knife, his devilish grin widening as he spoke, his eyes gleaming with a dangerous spark. "As I've said before, I thrive in chaos. What could be more chaotic than plunging a blade into your back when you least expect it, at a moment of crucial trust? It's not just the act, it's the satisfaction of watching the trust unravel. Isn't it fascinating?" He twisted the knife, his smile widening.

Steve pointed at William, his anger rising. "You..." he seethed.

"What's wrong, Captain? I just did your job for you. Shouldn't you feel happy?" William kicked Schmidt, sending him flying seven or eight meters.

"He was even your companion."

"No, no, no," William shook his finger. "I have no comrades, and Schmidt is just an object in my game."

"Fuck, William, you've been playing with me this whole time," Schmidt staggered to his feet, blood streaming from his back.

"Yes, and is there a problem with that?" William spread his hands.

Steve threw his shield at William. "I don't care what you've been doing, I just know that I'm going to kill you."

Dang!

William's shield collided with Steve's, and both men staggered back.

Boom!

A gunshot rang out, and a bullet hit Steve in the shoulder, blood splattering.

Steve staggered, turning his head to see the shooter. "Agent Carter, you...?"

"Sorry, I can't go back anymore," Peggy glanced at William.

Taking advantage of Steve's weakness, William struck Steve with a shield. Steve roared as he was sent flying.

William approached Schmidt, who was seriously injured, and tried to punch William.

"You still have the strength to do this? Admirable indeed," William said, blasting Schmidt with his shield.

"Here it is." William stood before the circular instrument, which emitted a faint blue light, and punched it.

Boom!

The round instrument was destroyed, and blue light flowed from it. A blue, transparent cube fell from it.

"The Tesseract," William said, picking up the cube as the blue light illuminated his face.
