Past Wounds

Chapter 10

'A nuke?'

'Yep!'

'Like the thing that destroys countries?'

'Yep!'

Priscilla marched over, facing her directly eye to eye. 'You really want to blow something up?' Lucia nodded her head, a large smile on her face hid the horrors that lurked within.

'Hahahaha.' Priscilla patted her shoulder, laughing as hard as she could to change the topic. Noir crept up the steps toward the training field with his eyes glued to his phone, Priscilla ran toward him, embracing his arm and dragging him toward Lucia. 'Aren't you feeling hungry Lucia? I sure am!'

'But didn't you have like two sandwiches?'

'Exactly! It was only two. Normally I eat four! Can you order something Noir?' Priscilla winked at him secretly so Lucia couldn't spot her.

'Sure but we are like in the middle of the middle of nowhere, the chance of finding-'

'JUST SEARCH!' Noir typed aggressively into his phone for a food delivery app, downloading the highest-rated one and making a quick account. Priscilla peaked her head around his shoulder, looking at the countless black screen displaying the same message ''There are no available restaurants near your location''.

'Welp, you saw the app, nothing can be done about it.' He placed his phone in his pocket and started walking around idly in circles around the pouting Priscilla. An idea flashed through her mind, she could cheer up by showing Noir her new spell, she grabbed his hands and dragged him to the table and equipped her willow wand. With a flick of her wrist she launched a needle, followed by another and ended by a third.

'Wow! You are so amazing.' Noir pretended to be impressed, it wasn't Priscilla's fault though, Lucia had performed feats that were known to be impossible so things like these just missed the mark. Priscilla pranced around happily knowing the first step was taken toward spell mastery. Her hair flowed like silk in the air, her rubellite eyes sparkling brightly like stars in the night sky. Lucia couldn't help but be entranced by her beauty, potential, and talent that had fallen into her hands.

Lucia walked away, picking up the phone and talking to someone in a foreign language, Noir and Priscilla continued chatting paying no mind to Lucia. A hint of animosity ignited in her eyes at the informant's words, an eerie smile taking over her pale skin.

She wandered back over toward the pair who were startled by the noiseless arrival of Lucia, she was like a lizard on Ice. She leaned over and exclaimed. 'You are starting school in January!'

'But it's September, what am I meant to do till then?'

'I am glad you asked.' She pulled out her own wand igniting a bright image in the sky. 'This is Mika. She is the student of my enemy- I mean dear friend. Anyway, I want to use this chance to compare my pupil to hers, so for the next three and a half months you will go through hell for me <3' Lucia's tone might have been nice, but her smile hid much darker intentions, clouded by a friendly aura.

'Right...'

'But first, we must get to the car. I have some orders to pick up from Witch-mart, on top of that we need to get you some ingredients to start your artisan training. No biggie.' Lucia whistled and not even a second later a broom landed beside her. Noir turned to his cat form and Lucia pulled Priscilla to sit beside her. On top of the flying broom it took mere seconds to get from one end of the cavern to the other, she wondered whether she would eventually receive one from Lucia or if she would have to buy one for herself.

From her pocket, she withdrew a set of car keys decorated with pink and lime green charms, the car lights blinked and the doors opened automatically. 'This is what kids in your generation call swag.' Priscilla face-palmed while getting in the backseat, Noir wasn't much different, their age was pretty similar to at least find her behaviour cringe.

Lucia jumped in the driver's seat, tucking her seatbelt quickly before launching through the entrance of the cavern. The three jumped in the air from their seat with every bump in the road, Priscilla caught a quick glimpse of the speedometer, enough to scare the soul out of her. It read ''230 mph''.

Several minutes after that, upon reaching a major road Priscilla had fallen asleep, her head gently resting on Noir's shoulder. Lucia winked at him through the rearview mirror, he shook his head and turned to look at the passing lights that could barely keep the darkness of night away. He wanted to pull out his phone but it was in the pocket against Priscilla and he couldn't bring himself to wake her up.

Just over the horizon a large warehouse came into view, purple lights shone into the sky illuminating the dark clouds which were ready to unleash a devastating storm at any moment. Priscilla sat up slowly, rubbing away the drowsiness. She cleared her throat and reached for a bottle of water that sat in the middle of the car.

'That was mine...' Noir tried protesting but figured there was no point.

'Here we are guys!' Lucia turned back to face the two, several cars honked at her while the car drifted across different lanes. 'Keep your eyes on the damned road you mad woman!' Noir questioned himself over and over again on why he didn't just turn into a cat and ignore them.

Priscilla however was awestruck at the sheer size of the building, her eyes glued to the strobe lights and flying figures above the entire building. 'I thought witches were supposed to be secret, how come they are flying freely?'

'Well, that is a great question. An area of ten kilometres around the warehouse is masked with ancient magic and normal humans are not able to enter here. And as to why they are flying there...hmm well, have you ever gone ice skating? This is the equivalent.' Lucia tried her best to explain, even though she didn't now know why completely but there was no way she would not answer a curious maiden's question.

They parked the car between two buildings Priscilla's eyes lit up at the sight of McWitches, the famous fast food restaurant renowned worldwide. 'Can we?'

Lucia sighed, looking at her watch, conscious of what time the stores close. 'Sure.'

A large fan greeted her with hot air as she walked through the automatic doors, the new modern design of the self-order machine and architecture to match it. She ran toward the machine adding two burgers, four sides of fries and a twenty-piece box of chicken nuggets. 'Do you guys want anything?'

'Is that all for you?' Noir couldn't help hiding his disgust over the sheer amount of calories that were packed within that order already.

'Duh, so what do you want?' Lucia stared at Priscilla, imagining a wagging tail behind her, waiting patiently for an answer.

'Get me a cheeseburger, and here is my card.' Lucia strode toward a table near the largest window, a perfect view of the light display happening in the fields. Priscilla continued with the order, adding what Lucia had wanted along with a hamburger for Noir.

'Here we are, three burgers, four sides of fries, a cheeseburger and the chicken nuggets. Would you like any ketchup packets?'

Priscilla shook her head, patiently waiting for the waiter to leave and start munching on the food. Without a second to spare she jumped into the food, stuffing her face with fistfuls of fries leaving nothing for the others. Lucia however made eating a cheeseburger look graceful. Noir tried eating the hamburger but continued doubting himself, checking a fitness app to make sure he had enough calories left for the day.

A little girl wandered over to their table, her small hands reaching up to Priscilla. 'You would like my hat?' The little girl nodded, her eyes hidden by the hat several times larger than her head. 'It suits you. Come give auntie Priscilla a hug!' A squeal followed by two arms wrapping around her tiny torso.

She pulled away, handing the hat back to Priscilla, waving as she ran back to her smiling parents. A warmth filled her chest, that was the first time she approached by a child like that. Lucia's heart was also warm, daydreaming about the scene she had the opportunity of witnessing.

A large warehouse welcomed them, a cold chill in the air stabbed Priscilla's side while the smells dried her throat. Hundreds of stalls selling items of many different varieties and rarieties.

'Alright Noir, you go get the items on this list, no need to barter, I want to be in and out of here. You know how cranky I get without my beauty sleep.'

'Yes ma'am!' He seemed deathly scared of the thought of a cranky Lucia.

She whipped her wand in the air and summoned her broom. 'Get on.' Before she could even look at any of the nearby stalls before they were flung forward through the densly populated paths. Her glasses flew off being left behind at one of the many stores, it took a few seconds to adjust but Priscilla realised she no longer needed them. The world was clearer than ever, a surge of joy escaped her throat and roared for everyone to hear.

'Here we are sweetie. This is the store where I have a very important package to pick up. Come with me inside.' Priscilla shrugged her shoulders and followed through the little flaps at the entrance of the violet tent. The inside was empty, not a clerk inside but it was littered with old dusty scrolls and tomes that predated written history.

'Come out here come on! Meet my new disciple Bianca!' Lucia pulled a girl from behind a curtain at the back. Her blond hair danced through the air while being dragged by the hyper witch, her blue eyes locking directly on Priscilla.

'The little bitch of Woodscort huh.'
