"I didn't catch your name." The Captain said as the horse landed a few miles away from the Colossal territory.
"Airon. You?" I asked as I scooted away from him.
"I'm Aslan." Captain Aslan said before the horse started walking. "What were you doing in the Colossal's forest?" He asked.
"I was hunting down beasts, I didn't expect the forest to be colossal." They must be talking about the mountainous monster. Then that commotion the Colossal was causing must've intrigued them.
"Is that right? The Guardians would sleep for centuries if not disturbed and only the mana of other guardians can send them into such a frenzy. Did you see anyone who summoned the Phoenix Flame Guardian?" Aslan asked as he looked back at the Colossals.
They probably hadn't seen me use the Pheonix's spells. "There was another man there… but he left right after the Phoenix disappeared." I didn't tell them the truth, I don't know the actual weight of what I just did but it all seems important so for now I won't speak of anything that happened.
"I see… you must be a new hunter. That seems to barely make sense." It was as if his curioisity towards me flipped. "What happened to your item you were supposed to acquire?"
"They were burnt by the Phoenix's flames." Airon said as he saw the border walls of a city appear in the distance.
"Alright. I apologize for the random interrogation. My men are suspicious of everyone we run into, so that was for them." Aslan said.
Although I still don't believe a word he says. "Don't worry about it, you saved me from being crushed by those Guardians. I should thank you."
"No, we were just lucky to find you just in time. There's no need to thank us. We're approaching Ainiricht, that's where we'll depart." He doesn't either, I may be imagining it but his men have been glaring at me ever since we've landed. "I've wondered… Are you a dark elf?"
"No, I'm a human. This is just the hair I was born with." Is he a knight? His armor is awfully light so I overlooked it before-
"Who is that?" I asked as I saw a lone knight standing, covered in the shade of the sun. Looking as big and more threatening than the monsters he recently just fought.
"That's the Commander of the Holy Capital's army; Commander Verstein."
As I looked at him, I could see the mana oozing out as if it overfilled his core. There was an excessive amount from that one man, not even these "mercenaries" combined matches his. Even if I could tell those monsters are hundreds of levels below him, I would certainly die if I was to fight him.
But even knowing that, I feel a kind of excitement hiding beneath the very bottom of my soul. "He must be the reason why Sage Dehlyora thought this city had monsters in its perimeter so far away." I thought, almost saying it out loud as I continued to stare at him.
"Is something wrong?" Captain Aslan asked as the horse stopped in front of the city's eastern gate.
"No." I said as I looked down at the large wooden doors that were wide open, meaning anyone can walk in and although there is only man on guard duty. He is way more than enough. Commander Verstein.
"Well this is where we'll separate." Captain Anslan said before I got off of his horse.
"Thank you again for saving me earlier." I told them.
"Of course. You should try to steer clear of Colossals from now on." Captain Aslan said as he started walking until he suddenly stopped. "If you need a place to stay, try checking out 'The Guild of Hunters and Adventurers.' They may be able to help. Also take this." Captain Aslan tossed a patched up bag towards him which was tied at the top tightly.
"Thanks for the tip. I definitely will." I said before they rode their horses into the city, disappearing into the distance. "I don't have any money so that Guild might help if I could get money. I need a place to stay, like a hotel or a motel. I also need transportation but they probably haven't invented cars yet so maybe a horse." I thought as I looked down.
"My clothes are burnt?! I didn't notice that at all. It." I thought before I opened the bag. "At least they gave me some clothes." Airon said as he saw the set of clothes in the bag.
Although these clothes make me look like a shepherd, they are comfortable. I headed into the Holy Capital, where the buildings were all made of stone and the people roamed the roads beautifully and peacefully, leaving enough space for the horse drawn carriages to ride through. The city's structure resembled old England, although it was much cleaner.
Before I started finding my way to the guild, I tried to get another look at the Commander, however he wasn't gone without a trace.
"Oh well." I thought as I looked down, noticing there were other beings besides humans.
There were animals who had humanoid bodies, like canines, cats, horses, bulls, rodents. However they weren't horrific or scary in any way, it was quite the opposite. In fact you would think, they were all humans.
"Luckily the Wizard gave me the ability to speak and read this world's language, so finding that guild should be easy." I thought as I read the street signs. "At this point I should just ask for directions." I said while staring at the street signs.
Meanwhile as Airon found his way to the guild, the scouts Captain had already met up with the Holy Knights Commander, at the border walls at the top of the northern gate.
"Commander Verstein, I'm back with a report." Captain Aslan said as he knelt before him.
"…" Commander Verstein waited for his report as he turned around to him.
"The Colossal was invaded by a Phoenix Flame Guardian, however a mage made a contract with the Phoenix turning its flames green. The Colossal was angered by the Flame Guardian, however there was only one man there who was escaping the Colossal's attack. He goes by the name of Airon and he claims to have been hunting monsters and was just traveling to our city. As well as saying there was another mage who summoned the Phoenix but the said summoner left soon after. He doesn't seem to be a threat but his words warrant suspicion so I suggest keeping surveillance over him for the next couple of days." Captain Aslan said as he continued to kneel.
"I sense a large deposit of mana within him. I'll trust your judgment, I'll put one of our top soldiers to watch him. Where is he now?" Commander Verstein said as looked over the city.
"He may be heading to the Guild of Hunters and Adventures. If not, he won't be hard to find. His appearance is that of a dark elf but he doesn't have the pointy ears or blonde hair." Captain Aslan said as he finally stood up.
"Hunting monsters isn't something Elves normally do. If that's all then you're free to go." Commander Verstein said as he looked at him before he saluted by putting his right fist over his stomach. "You completed the mission successfully as always."
"Thank you sir." Captain Aslan said as he saluted the Commander before he suddenly disappeared as if he just teleported.
"Airon… I hope you aren't a threat. For your own sake." Commander Verstein thought as he walked along the city walls.
The Commander continued to survey the borders.
"This must be it…" Airon said as he stood in front of a large building stone with a wooden sign that had a sword and staff etched into it.
The guild seemed to be one of the larger buildings in the city aside from the castle itself, the inside was made of wood and seemed to resemble a bar with a receptionist at the front desk. There was a lounge area filled with tables to the right and stairs in the far right corner to multiple rooms. There was a wall behind a receptionist filled with sheets of paper with different numbers labeled at the bottom of each.
The guild was filled with a variety of people, I can assume they are also members. There are those with swords, spears, halberds and staffs of what I can guess are used strictly for magic. There are even some without any weapons or staffs. Some of them had scars from previous battles.
"Hello! Are you here to put in a request?" The receptionist with a blonde bun and a tight white long sleeve asked as she saw me standing in the front.
"No, I'd like to join the guild." I walked up to the desk.
"Do you have a Holy City citizenship card or are you transferring, if so I need your citizenship card." The Receptionist asked as she pulled an application from beneath the desk.
"No, he's just like. He needs a citizenship and a guild license. " A random man walked up to the desk beside me. "Right teammate?" His long hair dyed red, swayed as he leaned on the desk near me.
Looking at him, I quickly noticed the bright green mark on his neck. He isn't just some random man, he's also a contestant.
"Well then just sign these papers and leave your mama print in that box. " The receptionist said as she put a pen on the table.
