As I entered my quarters, I found myself grappling with the recent disclosure.
I couldn't fathom why my aunt, who had been so opposed to my affections, would call off her engagement after I left. Wasn't my departure supposed to be the ideal solution?
Despite my bewilderment, I was certain of one thing: I had moved forward.
Upon activating my phone, I was inundated with thousands of notifications, all from my aunt.
"Joey! Is this some sort of prank? What are you trying to accomplish?"
"Did you set sail? When did you board Harry's vessel? Do you realize the implications of this?"
"Return now. Come back at once! I'll dispatch someone to retrieve you!"
I was at a loss for words.
"Joey, is this how you treat your aunt? This isn't the answer. Return and we'll talk it through."
"Joey, I never meant to cause you pain. Those pieces ... I couldn't let anyone see them. How could I face others otherwise?"
"Come back, Joey. I have my reasons."
I continued to peruse her messages.
