"What's the matter with you? Haven't you realized she's expecting?" Josh's words trailed off as he spotted me. "Natalie ... How come you're here?"
His gaze flickered with unease and alarm, "Natalie, please don't jump to conclusions. She's merely my assistant and because she's pregnant without anyone to support her, I'm simply fulfilling my responsibility as her employer ..."
He moved towards me, trying to clarify, but Tatiana moaned in discomfort behind him, "My belly is aching ..." she complained softly.
Josh halted mid-stride, his face contorting with concern, "I'll provide a full explanation later, Natalie," he said regretfully before turning to lift Tatiana in his arms and rushing towards the maternity ward.
Tatiana peered over his shoulder, giving me a triumphant grin, "You've been defeated."
That evening, Josh didn't return home. For the first time ever, he didn't even send a message.
