Lester maintained his forced grin. "Sam, my spouse acted rashly that day. She's led a sheltered life and struggles to relate to others. I sincerely regret her behavior."
Samantha, with bloodshot eyes, ignored his words.
Lester offered the small pastry he'd brought. "This is for you and the little ones. I know they enjoy these."
Samantha accepted it—only to immediately discard it in the garbage.
Lester's facade cracked, revealing his exasperation. He embraced Samantha, his tone laced with irritation. "Sam, what more can I do? Allow Amelia to continue making a spectacle at the hospital? The children were present!"
Samantha resisted, attempting to break free. "Mr. Ramirez, release me! Stop concerning yourself with another man's family! Don't return to my stand—if I spot you, I'll douse you with soup every time!"
Lester chuckled. "Reminiscent of our first encounter?"
Samantha's eyes welled up. "Don't try to charm me with those insincere words. I won't fall for it again."
