I gazed at the small container placed before me and lifted the lid. Inside was another timepiece.
It was an expensive and rare model.
But he seemed to have forgotten that it was a masculine watch I had purchased for him half a decade ago.
Its compact design made it appear like a women's accessory.
"I've arranged a space at Hilton Tower for today. Once we've finished our meal, we'll head over to examine the layout."
"Where's my present?"
Cornelius extended his hand towards me, as was his custom.
I grinned, shut the box, then sat down and shook my head.
"I didn't get one ready."
I playfully looked up at him, his face darkened with barely contained irritation.
But I had plans for later and didn't want to spoil them now, so I tried to soothe him.
"I'm just kidding. I'll give it to you this afternoon."
His expression finally relaxed. As he took his seat, Zevanka, sitting opposite, suddenly exclaimed.
"Cornelius, isn't it your wedding anniversary with Jessica today?"
"How did this turn into a media event?"
He checked his phone with a hint of surprise, then turned to face me.
"Jessica, what's going on?"
I glanced at my phone screen and saw a news article about the company's media briefing.
I sipped my soup, maintaining a casual demeanor.
"The company signed a new talent and I combined the press event with our anniversary for some publicity."
"You don't mind this little arrangement, do you?"
Noting my professional approach, he didn't inquire further.
After finishing our meal, I asked Cornelius and Zevanka to go ahead.
I, meanwhile, gathered those pictures and planned to visit the highest floor of Hilton Tower first.
It was reputed to be the best vantage point. Perhaps when the moon rose, I could transport myself back in time.
Even if it was just a gravestone, I only wished to be near Killian now.
It was truly tedious here.
This era of fleeting relationships where couples only stayed together for days held no meaning for me.
Standing atop Hilton Tower, the chilly breeze cut to the bone, but not as deeply as the coldness in my heart.
I watched time crawl by and my phone chimed with a final warning from the paparazzi.
[Only an hour remains, are you sure you don't want to buy it out?]
