"As an orphan from a young age, she's grown up with a pure and naive heart. Why don't you just apologize to her tomorrow and put this whole thing behind us, alright?"
His ridiculous words nearly made me burst out laughing in frustration.
He didn't acknowledge his own wrongdoing, yet somehow I was the one at fault.
When I remained silent, he slipped his hand underneath my clothing.
The stench of his breath and body odor made me feel sick.
"I've made reservations for our anniversary celebration tomorrow. Can't we just move past this?"
"Oh, and did you remember to get that watch I wanted?"
It became clear that his attempt at reconciliation was merely a ploy to secure an anniversary present.
I inwardly scoffed as I gently extricated myself from his embrace.
"We can discuss tomorrow's plans when tomorrow comes."
Cornelius typically showed more sense when trying to win me over.
The following day, in an effort to make amends, he rose early to prepare my midday meal.
This was because I usually slept in and rarely ate breakfast.
Upon waking, I found the table laden with my preferred dishes, interspersed with some of Zevanka's favorites.
"Jessica, Cornelius woke up at dawn to cook all this for you."
"And look! This is the anniversary gift he picked out for you."
It was then that I noticed she had applied full makeup and donned a seasonal designer outfit from V brand.
Cornelius had purchased this ensemble using my credit card, and I had initially assumed it was intended for me.
To my surprise, it was once again meant for Zevanka.
