"That's enough! Stop this at once!"
Evelyn could no longer contain her fury. Her features twisted with rage as she charged towards me, yelling.
"You ungrateful child! How could you stoop to such depths!"
"Did you truly believe this scheme would transform your circumstances?"
"You're nothing but a destitute, incompetent boy, and that's all you'll ever amount to!"
I stood my ground, dismissing her outburst. My gaze was fixed on my birth mother.
She remained motionless, her face a mask of weighty silence.
"Do you accept this as the truth?" I inquired gently, my voice quavering as tears gathered in my eyes.
I noticed her lips trembling almost imperceptibly.
"Vincent, if you've faced hardships, you could have approached me, your godmother, for help."
