CHAPTER 15
Andrew Bimeler did not look up when Patty entered the cafe. He was sitting on a stool at the counter, his back to the door, his chin propped on his hands. She had to call to him to break his reverie. He turned to face her, and the forlorn, lost look in his eyes brought an immediate surge of sympathy from Patty. It was obvious to her that the old man needed his granddaughter as much as she needed him.
Morosely, he went and got a cup of coffee for her. Patty noticed the tremors in his hands and forearm, when he sat it in front of her. She wished she had been able to bring him some good news, and now thought that perhaps it would have been better if she had not stopped by the restaurant on her way to the deserted Indian campground. She was becoming as concerned for Andrew as she was for Jenny.
"No news is good news, Andrew," She said in a lame attempt to brighten the atmosphere a bit.
"Is Paul at the house?" He asked, in response.
