CHAPTER 39

Poppy's face twisted into a scowl she couldn't hide anymore.

"I can't say."

"Poppy—"

"You're my best friend, but even still, I can't Sebastian. I signed a contract to keep everything confidential."

"Well then it leaves me to believe that something is going on between you two." Sebastian folded his arms at his chest.

Poppy frowned at him. "What does that mean?"

"What it means is that you're lying to yourself! Something is going on between you two because I don't understand why a man like Xavian Winslow would care whether or not an insignificant man like me is your lover. Why it would outrage him." Sebastian glared pointedly. "Poppy, he warned me to stay away from you because he would tear me apart if I didn't."

The more he spoke, the more Poppy's expression twisted in pure shock and confusion, gawking at him.

"I've never been so scared in my entire life, I swear," he continued. "He didn't seem human at all."
