My father had just come back from the war, his presence still heavy with the atmosphere of battle. The enormous, blood-covered sword on his back showed he hadn't fully left the conflict behind. His stern, penetrating look made even the bravest people in the room step back.
"The Duke's arrival is overpowering. It's frightening–I can't even budge."
"That Savannah girl is in trouble now. The Duke looks enraged."
The group murmured quietly, scared to draw attention.
Wyatt, though, seemed thrilled. Hugging Jessica closer, he smiled. "Great! Your dad's here to fix everything for you!"
He didn't realize how Jessica had turned ghostly white, her hands shaking by her sides.
I glanced at Edward with a smirk, silently mouthing, "It's over for you."
"Father!"
I hurried to my father, my voice clear and loud, filled with all the distress I could fake. I made tears appear in my eyes as I hugged him, copying Jessica's usual pathetic act, even forcing out a few calculated tears.
