As I gazed out the airplane window at the sea of clouds below, an unexpected sense of tranquility washed over me. Upon landing, I was greeted by my father, whose graying hair filled me with remorse. He had accomplished everything solo, without my assistance. I could only imagine the challenges he'd faced over the years.
He immediately noticed my uneven gait.
"What's wrong with your leg? Are you injured?" he inquired worriedly, reaching to examine it.
I gently stopped him.
"It's nothing to worry about, Dad. It's behind me now."
"How are things progressing with your Uncle Perez's daughter?" my father asked.
"Smoothly. Catherine is lovely. I'll ensure her happiness," I assured him.
My father seemed pleased.
Uncle Perez had been my father's longtime companion, and Catherine and I were childhood friends. Our families had long anticipated our union.
