The Lawyer with Suspiciously Good Reflexes

Alex still wasn't sure if he was losing his mind, or if Matt Murdock was just messing with him.

Because how the hell was a blind man staring right at him?

They started walking, Matt tapping his walking stick along the sidewalk like it was just another Tuesday.

"That hoodie's looking a little tight on you, by the way," Matt commented casually.

Alex stopped dead in his tracks.

"…Excuse me?"

Matt kept walking, smiling faintly. "What? It is, isn't it? You had a growth spurt overnight?"

Alex turned his head slowly.

Okay. NO. That wasn't just enhanced hearing.

"You… can't hear that," Alex said flatly.

Matt gave him a relaxed shrug. "Maybe you just sound taller."

"That's not a thing."

"It could be."

Alex opened his mouth to argue but then stopped.

This guy was definitely hiding something.

But was he really in a position to call someone else out for being weird?

With a reluctant sigh, he shook his head and kept walking. "You're really good at dodging questions, you know that?"

Matt smiled. "It's a lawyer thing."

As they strolled past a small park, a crack echoed in the air.

THWACK.

A baseball was launched at high speed, flying over the fence of a nearby field—and coming straight for Matt's face.

Alex barely had time to react.

Matt?

Matt snatched the baseball out of the air like it was nothing.

No hesitation. No struggle. Just instant, fluid motion.

Like he knew it was coming.

Alex's brain short-circuited.

"…Okay. Okay, nope. That was NOT normal!"

Matt tossed the ball back toward the field without missing a step. "Hmm? Oh, just lucky timing."

Alex stared at him.

"LUCKY TIMING?!"

Matt shrugged. "Good ears."

"THAT'S NOT HOW EARS WORK!"

Matt simply smiled. "Well, you've been jogging without getting tired. That's not normal either."

Alex opened his mouth to argue but immediately shut it.

…Okay, fair.

A Not-So-Typical Life Story----

They walked in silence for a moment before Matt finally asked, "So, Alex. What do you do?"

Oh. Right. Small talk.

Alex hesitated.

He couldn't exactly say, "Oh, you know, nothing much. Just accidentally got stuck with the Infinity Gauntlet, erased a Kaiju, broke reality a little, and now I live with a bunch of psychopaths."

So he settled for half-truths.

"Uh… I've got some roommates," he said vaguely.

Matt raised an eyebrow. "Roommates, huh? What kind of people are they?"

Alex scratched the back of his head. "You know. Just… some people I got stuck with. A bit of a mix, really. Some are loud, some are dangerous, some are... literally unkillable."

Matt chuckled. "Sounds eventful."

"You have no idea."

Matt nodded, tapping his cane on the pavement. "Well, if you ever need a lawyer, I know a guy."

Alex narrowed his eyes. "Is the guy you?"

Matt smirked. "Could be."

Alex sighed.

This guy was something else.
