Chapter 12

Adele stepped into the outside world, into the spirit world. And in an instant, power surged from all around and she was able to feel the river of reincarnation opening up towards her.

Although this surprised her, she simply smiled and let the seal ward the river off. The seal in the colour of green shined from inside her soul, and the river that was about to open up seemed to reluctantly close once again.

'Well, the river could probably still attempt to eat me up, after all, I have spent a hundred mortal lifetimes. But the river has a connection to us time witches after all… the records say that we have formed a pact with it, it won't be able to attack us as long as we have this special time reincarnation seal. I do wonder though, what was the price for gaining such a huge benefit?'

Then what followed her out was the sand that was entrapped inside the necklace with her. This time, the sand directly formed a ferry, a much more luxurious one than before, and its speed was incredibly fast.

Adele shuttled through the spirit world a bit and looked at the many memories of the other islands around. Her soul was much stronger, and she was easily able to see through the situations of other islands. As far as she saw, the world was truly like the records said: a world in the Victorian age.

Finally, she came across a scholar who knew a lot of things. Watching the several illusions across his island, one specific came into her eyes. It was when the scholar was young, and he had read about the world for the first time.

'The northern continent, two eastern continents, southern continent and two western continents. Do they mean Europe, Asia and Australia, Africa and North and South America? Well, calling Europe the north is probably not wrong… it seems that no one took the title of central continent.'

The boy kept on reading and it seemed that some anecdotes were written in the book too 'The powers around the continents couldn't decide how the continents would be called, so they simply decided to take geographical locations? Well, that seems very human.'

She looked at the illusion a bit longer before she switched to a different one. It was of the boy in a class listening to the teachings of a teacher. Just listening to it, Adele felt very weird. They spoke her native language indeed, since she had died there and didn't move at all, it wasn't surprising they spoke the same language. It is a bit surprising that they built the city again, but considering that it was the past capital, maybe they rebuild the capital in the end?

But what really bothered her was that her native language sounded so inelegant in their mouth. Her language was called the language of the philosophers and poets, although it was hard sounding, it was very elegant and extremely complex, very fitting for those that attempt to speak in riddles.

She even spoke the later language that had the prefix 'High' for being pure and with no dialect. Looking at the language they spoke here, it felt as if they were mishandling her language, even the worst dialect at her time was easier to comprehend.

Thankfully the spiritual world made it easier to comprehend and she quickly understood what the teacher was teaching. It was the political standing of the empire. That's right, the republic she once lived in became an empire, the Kran Empire. There is still a parliament though, so it can be said to be a parliamentary monarchy. And from how the teacher described the different powers, it seemed to still follow the old system majorly.

The emperor is above all, but he doesn't control the empire as much as he ensures the balance between the different parties that control the empire. He is more like the 'highest judge' that ensures prosperity of the empire, the imperial power is also the mightiest of all, but when it came to politics, he had much less of a right to talk.

It was weird, in all honesty. But she knew that she couldn't find out more about this by watching this scholar. Although the upper class of commoners could get education in this age, they would by far not get the important information that circulates commonly among the extraordinary people. Thinking of this, she stopped watching and flew around a bit more.

When she saw that she couldn't get any more specific information, she didn't intend to stay any longer. The foundational books also included a way to enter and leave the spiritual world. The witches' way can be said to be one of the most natural. She only had to pulsate the seals in her soul in a certain rhythm to connect them to higher laws, which would then send her back.

Don't think this is difficult, although it requires training, it is much easier and convenient than most other ways. At least this way, she could enter and leave whenever she wanted.

She did as she thought and soon her eternal name seal seemed to connect to the physical world. Her body dissipated, there was no portal or something like that. Those things are actually very ineffective for a single person transportation. Only when there are several people, and they all have the same destination, would a portal make sense.

When her body finally dissipated, Adele saw her surroundings. There was no dizziness, so she was able to quickly adjust. Steam was rolling around the city, but unlike the dirty steam of the true Victorian age, this one seemed extremely clean, like a winter fog or a small cloud that descended.

And this was only because she was high up, if she had to guess, then below, there was probably no such thing at all. She was happy about this, at least there wouldn't be a lot of pollution. Although it was a bit funny she still cared about the environment, but thinking that the world transformed, she didn't wish to imagine the consequences of pollution in this day and age.

She looked around just as she was about to fly away, her reincarnation seal gave her information. It seemed that there was a huge barrier all around the city, for now the seal could still shield her because of the special state she is in, but if she were to stay too long, then the seal won't be able to help her.
