A bewildered and shocked expression was plastered on Jack's face, hearing her words. He'd expected to be dead, but somehow he was alive and was now the new village chief? None of this made any sense to him whatsoever.
"What are you talking about? I literally killed one of your kind." Jack said. He'd expected her expression to be that of anger and rage, but not this. Imagine someone killing someone you cared about. Your own kind of flesh and blood. then instead of avenging your loved one, you help the person that murdered them.
It just didn't make any sense at all!
"Oh that.. yes he was one of my kind, but a failure of a husband and village chief." She said with a hint of resentment and relief.
"He only took the role of village chief, after defeating the previous orc village chief some months ago. To be honest am glad he's dead." She plainly spoke without any emotion or remorse whatsoever, taking jack aback a bit.
'This fox.. she's more colder than the system.' Jack thought, a cold feeling creeping up him everytime he stared at this fox woman.
"But anyways, that's in the past now. You're officially the new village chief, as per our customs, so I have no hard feeling or resent towards you." She smiled wagging her tail softly.
"Ok." jack awkwardly uttered not knowing what to say. He'd never been caught up in a conversation, so awkward like this before.
"So! Am going to take my leave now. Don't wanna stress the new village chief." She chuckled innocently. "Well at least not yet." She smiled, but jack could sense a more sinister intention to that smile underneath.
"I'll be coming to check up on you from time to time so get well soon. You have a whole town waiting to hear from you in two days." Darting a mischievous smirk at jack, she turned round about to leave.
"Oh! And you don't have to worry about anyone eating you while you recover. Considering you defeated Jin as powerful as he was, I doubt anyone would dare risk their lives." With that, she steadily proceeded to the exit of this building. which was covered by some hard wooden sticks, with decent spacings.
"Oh!" She stopped again remembering something. "I'd suggest you try not to lie to your subordinates on your first day. Don't want them to get the wrong impression of their new village chief." She said to which jack simply nodded, lost for words.
With that she finally exited the building, leaving jack lost in his thoughts.
'What just happened?' Jack wondered not believing what he'd just heard. First his injuries were treated by these locals, and now he was their village chief.
[Well it is plausible considering their rules and nature. Foxes, orcs, cyclops were territorial beings always fighting for the right of dominance. So basically they're bound to have competition like challenges, to keep the strongest one on top.]
"Well it still feels weird nevertheless." He murmured, still finding everything strange.
"Wait.. how was I able to understand her without you translating?" He'd wanted to ask this before, as he could clearly understand the fox woman when she spoke. And not only did he understand what she was saying, but they also spoke the same language in english.
[It's all thanks to one of the skills you acquired, after you killed the village chief.] The system spoke making jack's eye widen a bit.
'Are you saying I got a translation skill?'
[Even better! you got a universal language skill, which enables you to not only understand the languages of other races, but also communicate with them. Just like you do in English.]
'That explains a lot.' Jack excitedly grinned. Reading the system notifications earlier, he'd saw he got two skills along with a title. But unfortunately, he wasn't given the opportunity to check them out. before the female fox woman appeared out of nowhere.
"Better late than never." He decided to check his profile in full, seeing he was alone now.

Looking at the new skill overlap, jack was lost for words. There was only one word he could describe this skill as.
'Powerful.' nothing else could justify the skill value. The description was clear as water, and the different stages with the side effects were just mind-blowing. Amongst all his skills, this was by the the most dangerous he'd ever received.
"Why is there a new section labelled skills non-passive?" Jack frowned. Before he had received only two skills, decay and blood decay. Both grouped in the same section as passive skills.
He knew what passive skills were, as they didn't require any means of activation. Always active. But now, there was a non-passive skill section.
'And why are the stages locked.' He could see the same locked in bracket, attached to them just like walker of worlds title. It was weird, because there wasn't a locked attached to the skill itself but it's stages.
[There are two types of skills. Those that doesn't require any means of activation, called passive skills. And those that require a means of activation, which serve as a medium called non-passive skills.] The system explained to which jack listened to. He had little knowledge about these stuff, so it was impacting to learn more.
[Now there are different requirements, varying for several non-passive skills activation. Either by an equipment or a special gem. Anything serving as the middleman, required for the activation of a certain skill.] The system paused, making sure jack digested every bit of information it dished out.
[But, the most common means to activate one's skill is through a special energy found in abundance in the air. This energy can be refered to as many names, but it is universally termed mana.] The system said, making Jack's body tingle a bit in excitement.
He'd never been intrigued by the supernatural, thinking it never existed. But now was conjured in it, he might as well learn about this new world.
'So you're saying mana is magi'
[Similar but not magic in the superstitious way. It's an ancient energy long before time all around us, that grants us the ability to not only activate our skills. but also harness our body, making it inhumanly stronger]
"Wait! you're talking about cultivation." Jack exclaimed a bit, grabbing on to what the system was saying. He'd read about such in fantasy books, about how cultivating strengthened the host's body. giving them inhumane abilities, to perform extraordinary feats.
But he'd considered all that nonsense, and just some weird fetish until now.
'I always taught cultivating was myth, as no one had ever achieved the impossible. But now.. I don't know what's fake and real anymore.'
[It's not your fault. Such information is hidden from the likes of humans, as they're considered the weakest link on the food chain.]
'Do you never stop looking for new ways to mock us.' Jack smirked chuckling a bit.
[Occasionally not frequently. Anyways.. you humans can't feel or learn of mana yet, as your world haven't broken into the first stage of it's evolution path.] Jack's eyes widened in shock hearing the system words.
"E-evolution path, as in planet evolving?" Jack stuttered not believing his ears.
