Chapter 12: The Predator's Fall
---
The forest clearing was eerily quiet, save for the faint rustle of leaves and the distant murmur of a nearby river.
Adam crouched behind the thick trunk of an ancient tree, his sharp eyes locked on the scene before him.
The air was thick with tension, charged by the presence of the Fang Wolf Alpha, a towering Level 10 boss monster whose jet-black fur shimmered under the dappled sunlight.
Its glowing red eyes burned with an intensity that sent a chill through the air, while its razor-sharp claws dug into the earth.
Nearby, the two remaining Level 5 Fang Wolves, battered and bloodied, encircled the Alpha.
The smaller wolves growled low, their breaths heavy as they prepared for another desperate attack.
The ground beneath them was scarred with claw marks and streaked with blood, the remnants of a fierce battle.
Broken branches and tufts of gray fur littered the clearing, and a faint metallic tang of blood hung in the air. Adam's heartbeat quickened, but his grip on the dagger in his hand remained steady.
The Alpha snarled, baring its jagged fangs, and lunged at the nearest
Level 5 wolf. Its claws struck with a ferocity that echoed through the clearing, slamming the smaller wolf into the dirt.
Blood splattered across the ground, and the wolf let out a pained yelp.
But before the Alpha could deliver a killing blow, a sharp stone sliced through the air, striking the injured wolf on the head.
The timing was impeccable—the projectile landed a heartbeat after the Alpha's attack. The wolf collapsed instantly, its body limp.
A glowing blue notification window appeared before Adam:

Adam smirked, his eyes glinting with satisfaction. "Another clean kill," he murmured under his breath.
The Fang Wolf Alpha whipped its head toward the source of the attack, its ears twitching as it scanned the forest.
Its fiery red eyes swept over the trees, its growls deepening into a guttural roar. The monster's massive chest heaved as it tried to pinpoint its invisible foe.
High above, Adam crouched silently among the branches, his stealth-enhanced cloak blending perfectly with the surrounding foliage. He remained motionless, his breathing slow and controlled.
The second Level 5 wolf, emboldened by the Alpha's distraction, launched a surprise attack. It lunged forward, its claws aiming for the Alpha's face.
The attack landed, raking deep gashes across the Alpha's muzzle. Blood dripped from the fresh wounds as the Alpha staggered back, letting out an enraged howl.
Seizing the opportunity, Adam drew another dagger and whispered, "Mark."
The glowing red symbol appeared above the Alpha's head, flickering ominously. Adam gripped the dagger tightly and hurled it with precision. The weapon sliced through the air and embedded itself into the Alpha's shoulder.
A notification flashed in Adam's field of vision:
[Critical Hit! 100 Damage dealt]
The Alpha, now severely wounded, whipped around and struck the second Level 5 wolf with a powerful swipe of its claws.
The blow sent the wolf flying into a nearby tree, the impact cracking the wood. The smaller wolf crumpled to the ground, struggling to stand.
Adam watched intently, his mind racing. The Alpha was weaker than ever, but it was still a formidable foe.
The surviving wolf, despite its injuries, launched one final assault.
With a defiant growl, it charged at the Alpha, sinking its fangs into the monster's hind leg. The Alpha let out a deafening roar, twisting its massive body to dislodge the attacker.
As the two wolves fought, Adam took his chance. He pulled out two daggers simultaneously, his fingers gripping the cold steel with determination.
"Time to end this," he whispered.
With a flick of his wrist, he sent both daggers flying. The blades found their mark, piercing the Alpha's head with deadly accuracy.
The Alpha let out one final, earth-shaking roar before collapsing onto the ground. Its massive body trembled before falling still, its fiery eyes dimming as the life drained from them.
A series of notifications appeared before Adam:
[Critical Hit! 100 Damage dealt]

Another window followed, its text glowing golden:

Adam's heart raced as he read the notification. "Conqueror," he repeated, the weight of the title sinking in.
Adam is very surprised to see this title because earlier someone used to have this title, One of the Best Player in the guild.
A sense of pride swelled within him, but he quickly pushed it aside. The battle wasn't over yet.
As the Alpha's body dissolved into radiant blue energy, a massive golden loot chest appeared where it had fallen. The chest shimmered brightly, casting a warm glow across the blood-soaked clearing.
The final Level 5 wolf stood frozen, its eyes wide with fear as it stared at the spot where its leader had been moments ago. Adam didn't give it a chance to react.
"Mark," he whispered, and a red symbol appeared above the wolf's head.
With practiced ease, Adam hurled another dagger. The blade struck true, piercing the wolf's skull. It collapsed instantly, its body lifeless.
Another notification appeared:

Adam exhaled deeply, the tension finally leaving his body.
He climbed down from the tree, his boots crunching softly against the dirt as he approached the glowing loot chest.
His fingers hovered over the lid as he opened his inventory to make space for the rewards.
The clearing was silent now, save for the faint hum of the golden chest.
Adam stood alone amidst the carnage, a lone figure surrounded by the spoils of his hard-fought victory.
The chapter ended with Adam's hand resting on the chest, ready to claim the rewards that would solidify his growing dominance in the game.
End of the chapter 12.
