FAMILY DINNER 1

"I missed you."

She wanted to see his reaction, but fear got the best of her. Without waiting, she quickly pulled the duvet over her head, hiding from him.

Carlos stared at the girl who had just thrown an emotional bomb at him, only to bury herself under the covers. He never imagined those words could have such an impact on him. Earlier, he had frowned, thinking she had gone silent out of fear of him—until she dropped those unexpected words. And now, they echoed in his mind, unsettling him in a way he didn't understand.

Minutes later, he noticed her toss the duvet aside. She was fast asleep, rolling around as usual.

His sleeping drug is asleep.

The thought amused him as he walked over to the bed and lay down beside her. As if on instinct, she rolled toward him, wrapping her arms around him in her sleep. A flicker of curiosity crossed his mind—how did she manage to sleep when he wasn't home? She never could do without hugging something.

Then, his thoughts darkened. His brow furrowed as he remembered the teddy bear—the one she had put his name on. He recalled her words: I missed you so much I had to use a teddy bear to replace you.

His expression grew colder. Wait, what? Was he… jealous? Of a lifeless teddy bear? The mere idea irritated him. Jealous? That word didn't exist in his dictionary.

Yet, her warmth against him was intoxicating. It made him feel dizzy, lulled him into an unfamiliar sense of peace. Before he knew it, he had drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Evelyn woke up to an empty space beside her. Panic surged through her, and she sat up abruptly, scanning the room. Without thinking, she rushed to the door and flung it open—only to crash into a solid chest.

She looked up, eyes widening when she saw Carlos standing there. A wave of relief washed over her, and she let out a breath she didn't know she was holding.

"I thought you left again," she whispered, her voice laced with lingering fear.

Carlos didn't say a word. He didn't have to. His gaze alone spoke volumes—I told you, I'm not going anywhere.

Without another word, he stepped inside, picked up his phone, and spoke in his usual indifferent tone.

"Get ready to visit Tyler's villa tonight. There's a family dinner."
