We left for work in Nicholas's car. What Ms. Maya said to me kept ringing in my head. Cassie was dropped off at her house. Now I was made to sit in the back seat with Nicholas. I didn't know what to say, and he was on his phone the entire ride. I was so eager to get out of the car because I felt claustrophobic. I just needed some air.
"Why do you seem so uncomfortable?" he asked, surprising me.
I gave him a confused look. "Huh?"
"Did I stutter?"
I huffed. "I don't know why you said that."
"Well, then," he rolled his eyes and retrieved something from his pocket. "Take this."
I saw a phone. It was an iPhone. He got me an iPhone. I was expecting an ordinary phone, but he got me an iPhone instead. I took it.
"Th...thank you, sir," I said stupidly.
He fought a smile. "Make sure you don't act stupid. The phone is being tracked, so you know."
I nodded. "I'll be on my best behavior."
