"So, Daddy..." Amy linked her arm with his, speaking in a suggestive but soft voice. "No matter what my midterm result is, you still need to give me a gift to cheer me up so I'll be motivated to do better next time... Right?"
Olenna laughed lightly, her eyes sparkling with fondness as she placed down her glass of juice. "Amy, you've barely walked through the door, and you're already asking for gifts?"
"Why not?" Amy shrugged with a playful smirk, kicking her feet while she placed her school bag on her lap. "It's called positive reinforcement, Mom. Isn't that right, Daddy?"
"Perhaps," Miller conceded, his gaze lingering on her with a softness he rarely showed, and he ruffled her hair gently. "But before any rewards, let's see your midterm result, shall we?"
Amy's smile stiffened for a second, and she fished out her phone from her pocket, tapping the screen. "Compared to Quinn, I didn't do that well," she muttered in a low voice, her tone filled with a hint of sadness. "I wish I could be as intelligent as her... Unfortunately, I always do poorly. Compared to her, I guess I'm really ordinary."
"Why would you say that?" Olenna chided. "No matter what your score is, you're just as special to us, alright?"
"Really?" Amy forced a smile, gently patting her eyes, which had reddened. "I'm glad you think so, Mommy."
"We will always think so, okay?" Olenna stood up and walked to where Amy was sitting to give her a hug.
"Thank you, Mom, you're the best Mommy in the world." Amy sniffed, her voice breaking.
"Oh my... What a crybaby... It's okay." Olenna's whole body glowed with motherly instinct, and she gently patted Amy's back. "It's alright, honey. You're the best to me, to your father also."
A little while later, they broke from the hug, and Olenna ended up sitting with the duo.
The scene painted a strange picture.
A girl with strawberry blonde hair sat alone on her phone on the long couch, while her mother, sister, and father sat together on the other cozy couch.
"Mmm, here's my result, Mommy, Daddy." Amy handed the phone to Olenna, who gracefully collected it with a smile.
But her smile quickly diminished once she saw the score.
In the end, she gently patted Amy's shoulder. "You did well. But you can do better, baby."
"I know..." Amy rocked her head. "And I will definitely do better by the time exams come."
"That's the spirit."
Olenna handed the phone to Miller, who looked through the results, his smile, however, disappearing.

Miller's brows drew together as he scanned the screen, his lips thinning. "This is… quite disappointing, Amy."
"I-I know, Daddy," Amy said quickly. She knew this would happen, but she had already prepared a way to smooth things out. "I just had an off day during some of the tests. And Spanish... God, that class is impossible."
Miller's expression remained stern. "Your GPA is nearly a full point lower than Quinn's."
Amy threw Quinn a look, biting her lips as anger brewed in her emerald eyes.
In the end, Olenna gently held her hand and stepped in. "Comparison isn't good, Honey. Each girl has her own strengths too. And this is just a test. I'm sure she will significantly improve by the time it's exam season."
Miller's expression didn't ease up as he handed her back the phone.
"Are you that angry at me, Daddy?" Amy's eyelashes cast down, batting gently as her shoulders sagged. She continued in a low, pitiful voice. "I know I can never be as intelligent as Quinn and get good results like her, but I'm still trying my best. But in the end, I'm only proven right. She is the best, your favorite daughter. And I won't fight her for that. It's okay."
"When did I say she's my favorite?" Miller couldn't help but sigh. "Both of you are my favorite children. I just want you to put more effort into your studies and make the family name great. But your result..." He shook his head. "Your Spanish is even worse than Quinn's."
He turned to Olenna. "Ask Caroline if she could take in both of them. Also..."
He looked at Quinn, then at Amy. "Quinn, if you get a 3.9 in Spanish, I will give you whatever gift you want. And Amy... If you manage to reach a 3.5... you will also get to make a wish."
Quinn didn't say anything, nor did Amy. However, Amy found it offensive.
Why should Quinn need to get a 3.9 while she only needed a 3.5 to prove she was brilliant?
Indeed, her father was looking down on her.
