Edward glanced at the chair leg in his hand, thinking to himself, What use is this piece of junk? Back in school brawls, it might've been handy, but now we're facing Davis!
The Northern Frontier War God.
The combined worth of everyone in this nightclub wouldn't cover a fraction of Davis's value.
Joseph piped up, "Mr. Davis, I'm counting on you tonight. Whether I can get my revenge depends on you!"
Davis smiled. "Tell your people to stand down. I can handle this alone."
"Huh? But there are a lot of them."
"No matter," Davis replied. "It's been a while since I've had a proper workout."
Henry White exploded with anger, shouting, "Damn it, that's too arrogant! I'll take you down myself!"
Just as Henry White was about to charge forward, Edward grabbed him.
Henry's heavy frame, combined with his rage, almost made it impossible for Edward to hold him back. Edward managed to stop him but ended up flat on the floor himself.
"Why are you stopping me?!" Henry yelled.
Edward got up, thinking, You don't realize you're running straight to your death, do you? This is exactly how villains dig their own graves.
He patted Henry's shoulder and said, "Calm down. Don't mess with that guy. We can't win."
"What? Why are you chickening out? Fine, leave him to me!"
"Wait…" Edward sighed, "Let me try talking to him first."
Henry grumbled in frustration, leaning closer to whisper, "I really want this fight. Don't be too persuasive. If there's no fight, that'll ruin everything."
"I'll do my best," Edward muttered.
He turned to Davis. "Mr. Davis, long time no see."
"Not that long," Davis replied, his tone calm. "Let's get this over with."
"No rush," Edward said. "I have a question for you first."
"Go ahead."
The crowd was baffled.
The standoff had already reached the cursing stage, and yet these two were now chatting so politely?!
Edward continued, "Mr. Davis, with your commanding presence and extraordinary talent, why are you associating with someone like Joseph? And over a trivial nightclub scuffle at that? This kind of thing doesn't suit someone of your stature. How about I mediate? Tonight, Joseph and you can drink and relax on my tab, and we call it a day. How does that sound?"
Davis smirked. "Edward, who are you to call someone else trash? Do you even know what you are? I'm taking action tonight because you—and Henry White—have crossed every line. Everyone in Snow City knows you two are nothing but scoundrels. Tonight, I, Davis, will put an end to this!"
At that moment, Catherine walked in from the back, her expression alarmed. "What's going on? Why are there so many people here?"
Catherine had gone to the restroom earlier, spooked by Edward's reckless driving and intimidation tactics. After confirming her brother was safe, she had rushed to the bathroom, only to return and find the chaos escalating.
When her eyes met Davis's, sparks flew.
Davis froze, struck by her beauty.
A true goddess. Like a fairy descending from the heavens. Such elegance, such charm…
Catherine, meanwhile, felt uneasy under his intense gaze. Why is this man staring at me like that? She nervously moved closer to Edward.
Edward smirked inwardly.
[ [ Finally, the main characters meet. Problem solved. Catherine and Davis will fall in love at first sight and go off to talk together. ] ]
[ [ Though it's a shame, Catherine is destined to join Davis's harem. She and Victoria can be sister-wives. ] ]
Outwardly, Edward maintained his grin. "Mr. Davis, let me introduce you. This is Catherine, the eldest daughter of the White family."
Catherine flushed with anger, glaring at Edward.
Edward ignored her glare and continued, "Catherine, meet Davis."
Davis quickly clasped his hands in greeting. "Miss Catherine, it's an honor to meet you."
Catherine, however, kept a cold expression. "What's all this about? Mark? What are you all doing? Are you still acting like schoolboys? Put those weapons away!"
Mark and the others, chastised by Catherine, hurriedly hid their improvised weapons behind their backs.
Even Davis felt a twinge of awkwardness, realizing he had stumbled into a situation involving the White family's eldest daughter.
At this point, Joseph jumped in. "Damn it! You scheming woman! Teaming up with Edward to set me up? Don't think I don't know! Mr. Davis, take them down for me, and I'll get you ten girls tonight—young, lively, and eager!"
Davis shoved him aside. "Stay back. Don't stand so close to me. Do you think someone like me would stoop to that?"
"Huh?" Joseph blinked, confused. "But didn't you say you wanted to have some fun tonight? And you bragged about your stamina, saying you could handle ten women in one night. We were all looking forward to seeing you in action…"
"Bull—bull—bullshit!" Davis stammered, utterly enraged.
"I'm a man of high morals, noble character, pure spirit, and… Anyway, I've never, and will never, associate with those kinds of women!"
Joseph was stunned. "So… you don't want Mary or Carol either?"
"No! I don't even know who Mary and Carol are!"
"They were the two feeding you drinks while sitting on your lap! You even said Mary's butt was firm, and Carol's chest felt great—"
"Shut up!" Davis bellowed, his face red with fury. "You've got the wrong guy!"
Henry White walked over to Edward, gripping the chair leg tightly. In a low voice, he asked, "What's going on? Are these two out of their minds?"
Edward's face lit up with a smile.
[ [ This is too hilarious! This plot—ha, even that idiot author couldn't come up with this! ] ]
[ [ Today, let's play a game of "setting wolves against each other"! Watch me work my magic! ] ]
Edward leaned closer to Henry White and whispered, "A chair leg? That's useless. Times have changed—today, we'll fight with words." He winked at Henry White.
Henry's big eyes darted around for a moment before he nodded eagerly. "This will be good."
Behind them, Catherine glared daggers at the two, her eyes full of fury as she observed their devilish scheming.
Edward raised his voice. "There he is! Mr. Davis! That's the one who tried to disgrace my dear brother's sister, Miss Catherine! Luckily, I arrived in time to protect her honor!"
He thumped his chest dramatically. "But alas! Joseph's family is too powerful—we can't afford to cross them! If I had the courage, I would tear him to pieces myself!"
Joseph's face twisted with anger. "Edward, you're smart to acknowledge that, but don't think you can talk your way out of this today!"
Henry White, catching on, tossed aside the chair leg and cried out, "Sister! This guy bullied you, and yet I didn't dare stand up to him! I hate myself for being so useless!"
Davis's face darkened instantly. "You bullied Miss Catherine?"
Joseph froze, confused. What the hell is happening? Why is he coming at me?
He lowered his voice and hissed, "Hey! We're on the same side—what are you doing!?"
Smack!
Davis delivered a thunderous slap to Joseph's face. "Who the hell is on the same side as scum like you?"
Joseph's head snapped to the side, leaving him dazed.
"Wow! So heroic!"
Catherine clasped her hands together, her fingertips against her lips, looking utterly smitten.
"Huh?!"
Edward and Henry White both turned to look at her, as though seeing a stranger.
Edward squinted suspiciously.
[ [ So, lady, you're a born actress too, huh? ] ]
Davis, meanwhile, was utterly captivated by Catherine. If Victoria was Edward's ideal type, then Catherine was Davis's dream come true.
Every gesture, every word she uttered, was like a shot of adrenaline straight to his brain. He was utterly mesmerized.
Catherine turned her attention to Joseph, her expression shifting to one of righteous indignation.
"Joseph, I dined with you out of goodwill, and yet you dared to bully me! I'm just a woman, the eldest daughter of the White family—I couldn't possibly drag you to court. But mark my words, your wicked deeds will catch up with you someday!"
Her words were like a death sentence.
Joseph touched his burning cheek, glaring at Davis. "You—you slapped me?!"
Smack!
Another slap echoed in the room.
If there was one thing Davis excelled at, it was beating people up—and with flair.
The slaps rained down, one after another, leaving Joseph's face red and swollen. Blood dripped from his nose.
"Davis, you son of a—"
Smack-smack-smack-smack!
Davis grabbed Joseph by the collar with one hand and delivered a relentless barrage of slaps with the other.
Finally, he stopped, his voice icy. "I despise men who disrespect women."
Joseph, barely conscious, turned desperately to his lackeys. "You're just going to stand there and let him do this to me?!"
His goons finally snapped out of it.
"Let go of our boss!"
"Hey, punk, hands off!"
Davis smiled faintly, stepped back, and closed the door, leaving a sliver open. "Give me a minute."
The door shut.
From outside came the sound of chaos—thuds, crashes, and groans.
Henry White chuckled. "What's his deal?"
Edward grinned. "Isn't it obvious? He's got his eye on your sister."
"What?! Him? No way! My sister's yours—nobody else can be my brother-in-law!"
Catherine smacked Henry on the head. "Stop talking nonsense! Edward, what's going on?"
Edward shrugged. "You'll figure it out soon enough. That guy's the real deal—strong as hell and, well... let me put it this way: if your life were a movie, he'd be the male lead. The chosen one, unstoppable, destined to shine."
"So you're saying I should date him?"
"It's your destiny. Nobody escapes destiny."
Catherine looked ready to explode.
Henry White, however, wasn't having it. "Edward, cut it out! My sister belongs with you!"
Edward quickly cautioned, "Don't say that in front of him. Competing for his woman? That's a guaranteed death sentence."
"What are you so afraid of?"
"Not just me—you should be afraid too."
"I'm not scared of him!"
"You should be."
"No way! I'll go beat him up right now!"
Edward yanked him back. "Do you even understand words? He's the male lead! The chosen one! Even if we teamed up, we'd get wrecked. You'd probably lose your life! Just stay out of his way, talk to him respectfully, and never cross him!"
"Why are you so spineless?"
"Just trust me."
At that moment, the door opened. Davis walked in, smiling. "All taken care of."
They glanced outside. Joseph's men were sprawled on the ground, groaning or unconscious.
Henry White was stunned. "You... did that by yourself?"
Davis, ever the gentleman, wiped his forehead and turned to Catherine. "I apologize for the disturbance. I misjudged him as a decent man, but it turns out he's nothing but a scoundrel. Miss Catherine, rest assured—so long as I'm around, he won't dare come near you."
Catherine glanced at Edward, who signaled with his eyes: Go on! Talk to him! Your prince charming is here!
Catherine gritted her teeth in frustration, then suddenly smiled sweetly. "Dear Davis, is it?"
"Miss Catherine."
"Thank you for standing up for me. I don't even know how to thank you."
"You're too kind. May I be so bold as to invite you for a cup of coffee?"
"I'd love to! But there's one person who's bullied me for years, and I'm still terrified."
"Who?"
Catherine pointed at Edward. "Him!"
Edward's face froze mid-smile, his heart sinking as he turned to see Davis glaring at him.
Ah. So this is how I die.
