Third Person's Perspective

The house appeared undisturbed, offering him a momentary sense of comfort.

Consequently, he began sending her a flurry of messages.

[Skye, I've arrived home. If going out doesn't appeal to you, we could stay in. How does that sound?]

[Skye, what's your location? I can come and get you.]

[Skye, darling, if you're occupied, just return when you're able. I'll be waiting at the house.]

However, no responses were forthcoming.

Alarmed, he rushed to the study and opened the drawer containing crucial papers. All of Skye's belongings had vanished.

In their place was an aged journal, its exterior still wet with recent teardrops.

Derick collapsed into the seat, overcome. Eventually regaining his composure, he took a lighter and incinerated the journal until only cinders remained.

He had long desired to eliminate it, but Alanna had always been his fixation.
