Chapter 10

As I prepared to depart, Flynn suddenly grasped my arm.

"Wait!" he exclaimed anxiously. "What if I told you I've already confronted my father?"

I stood motionless.

"Yes, I spoke to him," he confessed in a near-whisper.

"I revealed my true feelings for you and confessed all the ways I've wronged you these past three years."

His eyes shimmered with tears he refused to shed.

"My father struck me and said his life's biggest disappointment was having me as a son."

I turned back, seeing the anguish in his gaze.

"Livia, I know I'm undeserving, but..."

He fell to his knees, his face etched with desperation. "Please, grant me another chance."

I gazed at the man who once seemed so imposing and felt an overwhelming weariness. "Flynn, do you understand?"

"What hurts most isn't your vengeance. It's realizing that loving someone completely can be life's cruelest experience."

I pulled my arm free.
