Chapter 9 - Potions Class

Soon the time for the next class arrived which was potions and entering the potion room that was slightly chilly. Felix refused to look at his two friends as he found a seat and saw the chubby Professor Slughorn. Where his hair was receding so much he was probably better off shaving what's left.

Upon seeing the very chubby Professor Slughorn, he was nearly twice the size of the actor who portrayed him in the movie. After mixing it with his height that barely reached the headmaster's chin. He appeared to be more of a meatball when he looked down at the desk he was sorting a few things beforehand.

'He is a potion master? Why doesn't he just wipe up some potions to shed some of his unnecessary fat?' Felix thought to himself.

Despite his cubby body and thick fingers and hands, the professor was a bit quick and had nimble fingers. So it made Felix begin to wonder why potion masters or even most average witches and wizards have such bad self-care. Granted he wasn't the best himself, but they make himself feel extravagant when he looks at their appearance.

"Are you any good at potions?" Angel whispered as she took a seat next to him.

"I'm good at everything I put my mind to." Felix replied while thinking of something else. 'It's hard not to be good at things when one can simply look at the cheat sheet. The question is more: does my practical ability allow me to do it.'

Angel nodded since from what she observed, Felix was a talented wizard. He is able to cast silently and wandless magic before entering and is able to master the transfiguration spell after a few attempts. So it wasn't boasting though it was very vague.

--

Once class began, unlike when Severus Snape gave a mocking and insulting speech as well targeting Harry Potter. Professor Slughorn was a bit more cheerful, but more strict than one would think. He also tended to hover around and praise more purebloods or those that catch his interest during the class.

So once the time arrived for them to brew their own potion. Felix took one look at it before his addiction took hold of him and he peeked at the various paths. Where he picked out probably the most perfected Cure for Boils potion that was doable in class. For there were more options, but most either require ingredients rare or yet to be made or technology far more advanced in either the magic or no-maj worlds.

So lightly panting as his head pounded in his head, Felix quickly wrote down the new recipe. Which made Angel look at him strangely since it was more than a bit different from the recipe on the board and book.

"Can you please grab the required ingredients? I will begin preparing the water." Felix asked with a quiet voice.

"Are you sure it will work? It is very different from the book." Angel asked.

"It will, trust me." Felix said as he began to move.

Angel just stared at him for a moment before beginning to move. She remembers how her mother told a few times her father suddenly became inspired when he made potions. He would suddenly have a thought and do things completely different, but achieve better results than previously.

Once Angel began to gather the required ingredients, Felix after adding the water, began to use blessing magic. For what he needed wasn't just any type of water but blessed water and it was a type of magic very few learned or can do anymore. Since most wizards don't need it in their life and the only ones that really need it from time to time were those that became priests.

For Blessing Magic was more like praying for magic to function be it attack, defense, healing or imbuing. It was a very unique magic and in Felix's opinion, it was about the same level of casting magic wandless when first learning. However, upon getting over the first hurdle it should be around non-verbal if one knows what to chant.

'Well, here goes nothing.' Felix thought.

So placing his hands together, Felix began to chant softly as he slowly moved his hands apart and lowered them until they were on either side of the water. Then under his movement, the water soon began to shift slightly as the clear water inside continued to clear up as a tint of smoke removed impurities inside.

After doing it thirteen times, to make sure he did it right as this was the first time he did it. Before him was perfectly clear water that belongs to legend within various religions around the world. For what sat before him was holy water in non-magical terms or blessed water by magical terms.

"Alright, I finally managed to find them all." Angel returned at that moment.

Due to the recipes calling for some items she wasn't very familiar with, she had to spend some time looking them up and then finding them. So upon seeing all was prepared, Felix began to move as he began to heat the water while they began to prepare the ingredients.

During this time, their actions didn't go unnoticed, but Professor Slughorn just gave them a few glances. He didn't look down upon adventurous spirits, however it made him a bit dissatisfied and the only reason he didn't stop them was because Albus asked Felix for a bit of freedom. Apparently in Headmaster words, Felix is very gifted and possesses a magical talent never seen before. So to discover the limits, he asked the professors to allow him freedom to do as he pleases within a reasonable degree.

Soon as class drew closer to the end and others were beginning to bottle up their potions and pack up. Angel and Felix watched their cauldron until the last three minutes of class. It couldn't be helped since they had a much later start compared to others. However, upon bottling their potion up, Angel looked surprised since it was very pretty looking.

While it was still blue like the other potions made by the students. Angel and Felix's seemed more magical compared to others. So after attaching their name to the potion, they handed it over to Professor Slughorn who just smiled.

"Very well done, you two. I don't think I've ever seen such a wonderful beginner level potion like this before." Professor Slughorn said. "I say, let's give ten points to Gryffindor for each of you."

Felix and Angel were surprised at the number of points. Most often the professors tended to only give a few points and rarely five or higher. Suddenly being given ten each was basically an achievement few gain each school year.

--

After leaving the classroom where they found John waiting at the end of the hall for them. The two walked over before Felix felt tired as it was basically his nap time. Not to mention he ended up using his ability in potion, but he basically took two classes back to back. So he was extremely tired and yawned as he slowly walked with half closed eyes.

"Where are you going Felix? We will have Charms soon." John said, sounding like a devil to Felix.

"Nap." Felix said as he stopped with a yawn.

So by the time they made it to the Charms classroom, Felix who had about a fifty minute rest let out a small yawn. He was a bit more energized, but felt sleepy again upon seeing Professor Flitwick holding a stack of paper bigger than the one Professor McGonagall gave him. Luckily Professor Slughorn didn't give him one.

"Here you are, Mr. Grindelwald." Professor Flitwick smiled as he presented the papers.

"Thanks." Felix had a forced smile.

"At least, Professor Slughorn didn't give me one." Felix muttered.

Then he felt Angel poking him from his right. Then he saw another stack of papers with potions written across the top with a small note on top.

'Sorry, I forgot to give you this at the end of class. Signed Slughorn.'

Upon reading the note, Felix felt like cursing something, since he felt like it was too much. Why did Dumbledore ask them to give him so much work?
