Chapter 23: The Last Mission

While Dante and Kaelene were trying to reestablish order in the war-scarred world, a new threat emerged with the death of the Dark Lord. The ruins that Sienna had sealed with magic began to emit a mysterious energy at midnight.

As Dante examined the last spell book Sienna left behind, the vibrations from the ruins shook everything in the room. Kaelene quickly approached Dante, showing sensitivity to the spell.

"This is a warning," Kaelene said anxiously. "The Dark Lord was merely a pawn. There is a much greater power behind him."

A New Threat: The Dark Council

An ancient inscription found inside the book warned Dante and his team about the existence of the Dark Council. The Council had taken action to fill the void left by the Dark Lord's death. And this time, they were not made up of ordinary soldiers or guards. The Council was made up of legendary warriors and wizards, each from a different corner of the world.

Dante gritted his teeth as he studied the inscription. "We are being dragged into a great war again. Lucian and Sienna did not deserve this."

Kaelene touched Dante's shoulder and spoke softly. "Their sacrifices brought us here. Now we must honor their memory."

First Council Member: Fenrir

The first council member, Fenrir, was known as a savage creature in the form of a werewolf. Dante and Kaelene answered a call for help from a village that had been devastated by Fenrir's attacks.

As Fenrir was burning down everything in the village, he turned his attention to Dante and Kaelene's arrival. "Finally, someone who will challenge has come," he said with a savage smile.

Fighting Fenrir

Fenrir attacked with incredible speed. Dante tried to aim with his pistols, but Fenrir's movements were so fast that the bullets kept missing.

"Dante, watch out!" Kaelene shouted, trying to slow Fenrir down by casting a web of fire at him with magic.

Fenrir broke free of the web and lunged at Kaelene. But Dante quickly moved to aim one of his pistols at an exposed point on Fenrir.

"I won't miss you this time," he said, and fired. The bullet hit Fenrir in the shoulder, knocking him back a few steps.

Fenrir touched his wound and sneered. "Is that all, bounty hunter? You must put in a little more effort to be worthy of my place on the council."

A Hard-Won Victory

Kaelene conjured a magical spear with the last of her energy and threw it at Dante. Dante caught the spear and lunged at Fenrir. Fenrir tried to stop Dante, but his injured shoulder slowed his movements.

"The spear is for piercing the darkness," Dante shouted, and thrust his spear into Fenrir's chest. Fenrir fell to the ground with a roar, taking his last breath.

Another Clue

With Fenrir's death, a sign appeared in the sky. The sign revealed a map showing the locations of the other members of the Council. However, the map only marked two points: a desert land and an ice-covered mountain.

Kaelene took a deep breath, examining the map. "We are running out of time. The other members of the Council will be stronger."

Dante replied with determination as he reloaded his pistols. "This time, we will spoil their game."
