I Will Die, If I Step Out!

"Get dressed now!" He snapped angrilly at her.

Selene blinked at him, her heart beating rapidly in her chest.

"Please. I don't want to go outside." She lamented to him.

Zephyr's eyes were dark and unreadable. He showed no emotions and he felt none but anger as he looked at her.

The brief moment of intimacy they had shared was still fresh in his head and he hated the fact that he had lost control of himself.

Selene on the other hand was not thinking of that. She was thinking of stepping out against the order of her curse.

How could she explain to him that she was not allowed to step out on nights that weren't nights of the new moon phase? That she had never in her entire life done that?

Besides, she was supposed to have lost her memory. That was what she told the stranger before her.

"I don't have time to waste. Get up!" Zephyr ordered and she gasped in fear. "Put that on or I will take you out as you are."

Selene felt trapped and even more scared.

"Fine." Zephyr said darkly and started to walk towards her.

"Okay. Okay." Selene said grabbing the cloth and quickly rising to her feet.

He stopped then, with his eyes fixed on her.

"Can I have some privacy to get dressed please?" She asked shifting uncomfortably under his heavy gaze.

Zephyr could sense her reluctance to come out with him and he thought that it must be because she knew that he would soon close in on her.

"Be fast." He ordered and turned his back on her.

Selene knew that he would not give her any more privacy. She slipped on the simple silk dress that was given to her. It was black in color which was a contrast to the usual red clothes she wore.

The dress didn't fit her perfectly but it was good enough, flowing with a comfortable elegance. Next, Selene dropped to her knees whispering a prayer to the goddess.

"Forgive me for what I'm about to do. Don't strike me dead. I need to find a way to achieve my goal. Please forgive me." She begged in scared whispers.

Zephyr turned around and saw her, kneeling by the bedside, hands clasped together and eyes closed.

When she stood up, she was shocked to see him looking at her and a sudden silence laced with tension enveloped the room. There was a strong attraction that was undeniable.

"Let's go now!" Zephyr snapped at her pushing his throbbing emotions aside.

She started to walk towards him but stopped as if remembering something, she hurried back to her ripped engagement dress on the ground and tore a piece which she wrapped around her head like a shawl before walking back to Zephyr.

He was rooted to his spot, eyes taking her in the utmost curiosity.

His gaze intimidated her just as his presence made her feel small.

"I'm ready." She voiced out despite her reluctance.

She could not take his intent gaze any longer and the way it made her feel.

Zephyr turned around and opened the door urging her to step out before him.

She did so carefully and her eyes began to take in her surrounding. It was a large and vast hallway lined with soldiers at every corner. They bowed their head as Zephyr passed with Selene.

Fear gripped her and she trembled so much that she clasped her hands together. Her heart was racing so fast and hard as they walked down the torch lit hallway that was so silent that only their footsteps echoed loud and clear.

Selene felt like she was approaching doom, she cast a glance at the person who was walking beside her. The one who made her feel helpless as well as overwhelmed with desires.

The one she greatly suspected to be her mate. But he had a darkness that surrounded him and Selene wondered what he wanted to do with her.

Selene stopped just as they got to a corner.

"Where are you taking me please?" She asked trying to sound confident even though her voice betrayed her.

"Keep moving." Zephyr ordered.

"Are you going to kill me?" She asked him.

"Not yet!" He shocked her by saying. "Now move!"

He gripped her arm again, forcing her to move on and leaving her no choice. She was unable to marvel at the large building as she descended a mighty staircase, she was too busy struggling not to trip as Zephyr was walking too fast and forcing her along.

As they got to a pair of large doors, Selene froze refusing to be moved.

"What now?" He shouted in frustration.

"I can't….. I can't go out." She tried again as fear crippled her. "I should not. Please, I beg you with the goddess. I beg you not to force me out."

Zephyr could detect the fear in her eyes. She was trembling so much that one would think death was waiting for her outside.

"Please." She begged.

"Why?" He demanded in his cool but dark voice.

Selene bit her lip as tears crowded her eyes. How could she explain to him? It would sound ridiculous! He would not believe her but she had no choice. If she could try to avoid stepping out, then she would.

"If I step out, I will die." She said genuinely and tears slid down her cheeks.

Zephyr was silent and for a moment, she believed he was going to listen to her but all that vanished when he opened his mouth to speak.

"Stop your lies." He said simply.

"I'm not lying, I swear." She begged.

Her eyes screamed fear but Zephyr did not trust her.

He took hold of her leaving her no chance to speak further as he opened the door and forced her out.

Selene lost her balance as she fell to the ground under the open sky.

She cowered in fear waiting for the ultimate punishment of death to be unleashed by the goddess.
