Eyes, shut and awaiting immediate punishment, Selene was quivering and whimpering.
"To be struck on sight!" Monrel's words echoed in her head.
But even after waiting, she heard nothing and she dared to raise her head as slowly and as carefully as she could.
She could see boots worn by someone , right in front of her, she soon saw that the pair of legs belonged to him, the beautiful, mean man with dark eyes and a very cold demeanor.
Selene hurried to her feet unable to stop her hands from feeling her body as if she was trying to be certain that she was still alive.
Her heart was still racing, she could not understand why nothing was happening to her.
"I…don't understand." She said to herself in a low tone.
"Are you done with your theatrics?" Zephyr's voice boomed and he took her attention again.
His face was unreadable but his voice sounded irritated and displeased.
He took more steps towards her closing the distance between them.
"Your lies won't help you here." He said, then he grabbed her arm without warning and continued to lead her on.
A few number of torches were lit in the open spaced compound which Selene initially thought was empty, until she saw two figures. Coming closer, she noticed that one was the figure of a man and the other a large restless animal.
"My Alpha!" The horse wrangler greeted bowing his head at Zephyr while he held on to the lead rope despite the horse's impatience.
"Rocco." Zephyr called and the stubborn horse stopped fidgeting immediately .
Zephyr held out his hand for the rope and the horse trotted to him neighing gently as Zephyr ran his hand over its mane.
He got on its back swiftly and only then did he notice Selene's bewilderment as she stared at the horse.
Zephyr was uncertain of what to think, he could not help but wonder if there was a possibility that she had truly lost her memory. She stared at the horse like she had never seen one in her life.
Selene had read about horses but she had never seen any, she had no idea how big and intimidating they were.
"Get on." Zephyr's cold voice interrupted her thoughts.
Selene eyed him and then eyed the horse wondering how on earth she was supposed to get on.
Zephyr pushed down a groan and offered his hand to her. She placed her hand in his because despite the uncertainty, there was definitely a want.
For a split second, their hands sparked an intense connection which fuelled Zephyr's irritation as he lifted Selene up easily.
"Go." Zephyr commanded Rocco who started galloping immediately.
Grabbed by fear, she immediately held on to him and shut her eyes.
The last time she had moved so quickly admist trees and darkness, her brother and his lover had taken her for her own assassination. Now, she was unsure of where she was headed to and what her fate will be. So when the movement stopped, she had expected herself to he a cliff, but they were at a serene land with a well structured bungalow that was well lit.
Luna Vilka and Beta Ralph were already waiting. Zephyr got down very quickly to get away from having Selene so close to him.
"Took you long enough. I'm sure its thanks to Rocco." Ralph welcomed them.
The horse neighed disapprovingly in response and Selene gasped in fear.
"We are not late because of Rocco." Zephyr corrected and his eyes turned to Selene. "Get down." He ordered and again she was startled by his cold tone and dark eyes.
Selene eyed the strangers warily before her eyes fell back on Zephyr.
Too tired to say a word, she decided to try getting off the horse but instead, she landed on the ground with a loud thud.
"Is she alright?" Luna Vilka took urgent steps forward.
"She's fine." Zephyr snapped through gritted teeth while his eyes watched Selene.
Her body felt weak but it was nothing she could not deal with. She rose to her feet trying her best to maintain his heavy gaze.
He held on to her arm.
"Enough with the games!" He hissed.
"I'm not…."
"And lies!" He ordered.
"We should get going." Ralph interrupted trying to lessen the tension.
They all walked towards the lit house and when they got there, the door opened and an older woman with grey eyes and extremely long brown hair ushered them in.
Selene walked in to the room and was immediately welcomed with warmth. There were lit candles everywhere and a lot of flowers inside vases.
"Otsanna." Vilka greeted giving her hands to the pack's sorcereress.
" Luna Vilka." Otsanna greeted with a smile and then she looked past Vilka at Ralph and Zephyr.
"Alpha. Beta." She greeted with a bow which they responded with firm nods.
Selene's ear twitched at the mention of the word 'Alpha' just as Otsanna's eyes turned to her with a warm smile.
"Hello Selene." She greeted.
Selene gasped and took a step back in alarm.
Zephyr turned sharply to her and then back to Otsanna.
"You know her?" He asked immediately.
"I know her name. Don't you?" Otsanna asked in her ever soft tone.
"I don't." Zephyr insisted and turned to Selene angrilly. "She doesn't either!"
"But you know who she is. I'm guessing that's why you are here." Otsanna said observing the Alpha.
"I'm here because I want to know who she is, where she comes from and who sent her here!" Zephyr said angrilly.
"Is that the main reason you are here, Alpha?"
Zephyr gritted his teeth in response.
Otsanna was pushing him.
"It's a false Mate Bond!" He insisted.
Selene looked at him feeling a stab of pain by his words while Otsanna laughed softly.
"There's no such thing, My Alpha." Otsanna said. "She is your mate. I can feel it and so can you."
There was a moment of silence as everyone took in this solid piece of information. Selene could not believe that he was truly her mate. Yes she could feel it but how was that possible with the curse?
"I want to know who she is and how she got here!" Zephyr demanded.
"I know only her name, My Alpha. Only she can tell us how she got here." Otsanna said. "But for the bond, it's not false. You are mates."
The words settled in once again.
"No." Zephyr disagreed.
"Deep down, you know it, Alpha and that's why you brought your mother here, to partake in your next decision."
Vilka turned to her Son. "What is she talking about?"
Zephyr was silent, eyes starring in to space as if unseeing. Then with an innermost growl, he announced.
"Start the Rejection Ritual Now."
