Coffee and New Friends

Mom and I went inside and decided it was time to call it a night. Mom was taking a shower so I left my bedroom door opened and changed into an oversized shirt and some panties. I put the first aid kit up, finally and saw the blue box on my bed. Opening it I saw a charm bracelet with three charms already on it. A cactus. The letter S. A doll. I smiled at it. "That's cute sweetie, where'd you get it?" Mom asked from the door. "Killian." I replied. "He must have noticed your other one is full." She added. I got up and put the box on my dresser then gave mom a hug and goodnight kiss. That night I dreamt of Killian and what could have happened if mom hadn't called me.

The next morning was sunday which means mom was helping Luna take the babies to church. Mom never pushed me to go, just voiced her opinion that she'd like it if I did. Don't get me wrong I have nothing against church I just don't think one has to go to be a good person. I stayed in bed till 10. Once finally up I showered and went to my desk to look over my notes for this week. I made something to eat and relaxed till noon.

But I wanted coffee. So I searched cafes nearby and came across one that intrigued me called Flaming Java. I grabbed a purple crop top with black shorts and black combat boots. Shot mom a text that I was going out to explore the town and jumped on my skateboard. I didn't pay attention to where the cafe was before going, it wasn't till I stood in front of it I realized I was downtown.

Holding my skateboard to my chest I walked in. There weren't many people but the ones there had a staring problem. "Hey there sweetie. You must be new to town. What can I get you?" A soft voice asked. Looking up I saw a sweet older woman who must own the place. She had the cutest smile. "Um, I'm not sure. Just surprise me. I'll take whatever you think is best." I smiled at her. Her eyes sparkled. "That's not safe. She only drinks black coffee and espresso. She'll give you a caffeine high." A husky voice said from beside me.

"That's okay, I like black coffee." I said, reaching the woman my card. She took it and swiped it super quick before returning it. "One midnight blast coming up." She zoomed away. "Good luck." The husky voice said. I turned to find deep blue eyes staring into my soul. It felt like I was drowning. *DING* "ORDER UP!!!" The sweet woman yelled. Reluctantly I turned back to the counter and grabbed the coffee. She watched me take my first sip. "OMG! Is that Robusta beans with Arabica espresso!? You must have slow sept it. It's soo good." I burst.

"Don't Get Her Started!" A grumpy older man said walking from the back. I just smiled and looked around for a table. "Here this sits open." The husky voice said, pushing someone out of it. "You don't have to push him out of the chair, there's plenty of space." I giggled, but still took the seat. Then I noticed the boy who's seat I took was the one that called Travis a queer. I stared at him but he was too busy texting to notice.

I learned the husky voice is Draco and the boy he kicked out the chair is Jason and they go to Silver Oak high. We talked while I drank my coffee. Apparently the boys are on the football team. They'll graduate this year. I explain how mom and I just moved to town though mom grew up here. And I go to Redwater Creek. "Damn I'm sorry you have to deal with those snoops." Jason said. I shrugged "Mom graduated there so It's okay." They explained the older couple owned the place and their names are Marvin and Jill Sue. We spoke a bit more before I finished my drink and thanked the lady again. "I'll Be back." I said as I left.

It became part of my routine to go to Flaming Java on Sundays to see Mrs. Sue. I got to meet more of Draco's friends too. Mason was also on the football team but he just shattered his collarbone last week so he's benched. Kyle is the baseball captain and super nerdy but in a cute way. Victoria, Draco's sister, is cheer captain. Isabella is co-captain on the squad. Lily cheers too but she's more worried about her art studies and she's dating Kyle. Kevin wrestles and is dating Victoria.

We all hang out when I can. They've started to show me around downtown and I still can't figure out why Nick and Killian don't want me here. But I'm careful and don't stay too long. I'm finally starting to like it here.

I was sitting at our regular table when the others came in. "Hey you coming to the game Thursday?" Isabella asked as she sat beside me. "You know it's a waste of coffee when you put in that much cream." I huffed. She stuck her tongue out. Draco leaned over the booth from above me and asked "Is that a yes to the game or are you against sports?" I looked up at him and smiled. "I love sports. I just didn't know there was a game."

They all froze and raised an eyebrow at me. "You don't talk to people at school do you?" Jason questioned. "We're your main rival. I know someone has said something about the game." Lily explained. "Wait. Are yall the Shiny Thugs!?" I asked a little too loud. Everyone sighed in unison. "I can't believe they still call us that." Mason said, handing Draco his drink. "Wait, who did you think they were talking about?" Kevin asked. "I don't know. I just can't see yall being thugs so I didn't think it was you." I shrugged.

We talked some more and decided I had to come to the game. I went through the rest of the week like normal. Having Audrey and Mabel in class helped. I finally started paying attention to the football game conversation. Soon it was already thursday. Redwater's colors are red and black and Silver Oak's are Green and silver. I couldn't figure out what to wear so I decided on skinny jeans and a purple tank top. I wore a black and white plaid shirt over it for school.
