*( like finally. I get to use his name)*
...
' I wasn't completely understanding what was happening. Was the boat a test? Or... Never mind, I'm not going to bother trying to get these people.'
" Ummm, kid, my arm's not going to stay stretched out for much longer "
" Ooh..."
Taking his hand, he helps me up.
" So what exactly is this?"
" I figured that some people will ask this question but all things considered you should know by now "
" Know what?"
" Try and recall what you where told in the yesterday "
He smiled at him like he was a teacher with a toddler and was expecting him to do something.
" Ooh yeah." Recalling what they had said
" I'm supposed to become a shadow. But what those becoming a shadow even mean?"
" Good, close but not quite there. You asked what, this, is. This is the training ground for shades. Do you recall the part about shades?"
" Why are you treating me like your some sort of teacher?"
" Cause I am. Now, do you know what a shade is?"
" Yeah it's the area covered by a shadow, it's usually cool."
" Good, close but not there. Teaching moment! In Asia there are 15 clans. Each clan runs a country or nation or whatever you want to call it. Each decided of their own accord that their defenders would be trained and thus named differently.
The yin Yang clan is one of the three strongest clans, operative wise. And this is because of the thousand shadows. We are not always a thousand but... You get.
Each shadow is initially trained by a group of retired shadows, preferably called casters."
Someone snickered amongst the people behind him. The smiling man turned and faced the crowd. As if by magic, someone In the crowd was flung backwards. The man turned back and faced the boy.
The boy felt like only he had seen what the man had just done. He'd flicked a Peeble at the kid.
" Now you remember what happens when someone interrupts a teachable moment. Where were we? Aah yes I was explaining.
We casters have nothing better to do than to train rookies to become good shadows.
From year to year people are enrolled and some survive."
" Survive?"
" Cause today's your first time I'll let it slide but after today a break of my rules is punishment.
Yes, survive.
Most years it's only about twenty people and by the end only two to non are left.
Your already late so you'll have to catch up with the whole curriculum. Luckily, we're just in the month of February."
Looking over to the rest he started walking into them causing them to troop and follow him from behind as he passed them by.
" For the first five months you'll learn the art of being a shadow, form groups, have classes and be thought the nine graces.
Two per month and for the final month only one.
For the months after that you'll be tested constantly. Your physical, mental, emotional and all sorts of aspects would be tested for endurance. You'll be broken and rebuilt so many times that you'll be finer than sand, you'll be so solid yet so mailable, enough so that you'll become a shadow.
In the final month you're motives and reasoning would be tested."
He stopped and looked around at the crowd of people following him behind.
" From amongst you, 786 of you. Some would die and fewer would develop into the perfect specimens.
Any questions?"
He looked around, throughout the whole thing he hadn't stopped smiling once.
' maybe I'll stay '
Someone from behind, the guy that had been hit by the pebble, spoke.
" Sir! You haven't told us his name"
" Honestly I don't know either. I haven't asked." Turning to me, " what's your name"
" Wait first, sir you didn't answer most of my questions. As for my name, it's mikelangelo
Clyster."
