Chapter 11

The alcohol affected me more than I anticipated; I felt tipsy.

I exited the bar to get some fresh air and found myself mesmerized by the flow of vehicles on the street.

Strangely, I didn't experience the usual pre-departure sadness; instead, I felt excited about future possibilities and optimistic plans.

While contemplating my impending single status, a recognizable silhouette caught my attention.

Jack had somehow discovered the location of our team dinner and was waiting outside, prepared to take me home.

"Darling, has the celebration concluded?"

He approached enthusiastically, eager to accompany me back.

Unfortunately for him, that residence no longer felt like "home" to me.

Before I could reply, one of my colleagues emerged from the bar.

"Jen! Everyone's waiting to raise a glass to you! Come back inside!"

Jack looked expectant, clearly anticipating my decision.

"Don't feel obligated to wait, just go home."

I left it at that and returned inside with my coworker.
