Chapter 10

Maria accompanied me back to my quarters and examined the garment in the container.

Her gaze held disapproval. "Don the outfit and I'll escort you to the lower level."

Naturally, she consistently found me mortifying, yet never inquired about the reasons.

I retreated to the lavatory and slipped into the dress.

While the dimensions were impeccable, the hue was completely unsuitable for me.

After all, Maria and Quincy had selected it together, with even the color chosen to suit Quincy's tastes.

As I emerged wearing the dress, Maria's expression, previously tinged with irritation, transformed instantly.

"Ruby, perhaps you should visit your sister's quarters to select an outfit? I'll request her to pick out some accessories for you as well."

It appeared Maria wasn't oblivious, merely disinclined to dedicate time to considering my needs.

"No, wouldn't it be preferable if I didn't make an appearance?"

Observing my composed demeanor, Maria couldn't help but feel a pang of remorse.
