Chapter 11

After coming back to his homeland, Bernard started drinking excessively and even took part in illegal street races.

He recently had a vehicular collision.

"He seems to have lost his will to live and keeps saying your name while unconscious. I know he caused you pain, but... would you consider visiting him for old times' sake..."

"I'm sorry, Mrs. Yvon," I cut in, "I've moved on with my life and don't want to revisit the past."

There was a prolonged quiet on the line before the call ended abruptly.

Following the call, a video message arrived.

The footage showed Bernard in bed, his eyes vacant, repeatedly whispering my name.

I was shocked to see how thin he had become in just a matter of months.

However, this was no longer my concern.

Three years later, I encountered Bernard at a social gathering in our home country.

He had an incredibly aloof demeanor, but when he spotted me, his eyes lit up momentarily.

He hesitantly asked, "Jane, have you returned to find me?"
