I greeted her with a welcoming grin. "Hello Kate, please come in," I said, moving aside to let her enter. Kate was my close companion and the partner of Beta Richard.


"I heard about the incident, Jas. I'm truly sorry," she said softly, pulling me into a tight embrace.


I hugged her back, exhaling deeply. "It's okay, Kate. I'll manage."


Kate suggested we take a stroll to our favorite location in the pack, so I could share the details of the event. As I finished recounting the story, Kate's face contorted in revulsion.


"I can't fathom that he's my alpha, and I'm still required to show respect. Richard is even considering stepping down as beta," she expressed. "You never mentioned anything all this time, Jas. You kept up appearances as if everything was fine. No one would have ever guessed."


I shrugged nonchalantly. "I suppose I was trying to convince myself things would improve, while they actually worsened."
