Chapter 2

Jasmine's Perspective

I couldn't help but roll my eyes as I read Mira's message to him, inviting him over for a meal to express her gratitude for his assistance when she tumbled down the staircase. As I scrolled through their conversation history, I felt a pang of jealousy. Their exchanges resembled those of romantic partners, with Liam displaying a warmth that was absent in our interactions.

My heart sank as I stumbled upon a particular message from Liam to Mira: "If only we hadn't ended things, we'd still be together. I believe we're destined for each other, regardless of being mates."

I didn't bother reading Mira's response as a wave of emptiness washed over me. I found myself fixated on his words, unable to contain a bitter, hysterical laugh.

"What's so amusing?" Liam inquired, entering the room with an irritated expression. His eyes darkened with fury when he noticed me holding his phone. He rushed over and snatched it away, glaring at me venomously.

"How dare you invade my privacy?" He snarled, gripping my shoulders and shaking me forcefully. I met his gaze with a sardonic smile.

"So, you wish you and Mira never split up? You two are meant to be, right?" I retorted.

Liam clenched his jaw, glowering at me. "Don't blow this out of proportion. I was merely consoling her, nothing more."

I scoffed, "Of course, nothing more. You must think I'm naive, Liam, but you're the foolish one."

He growled, displeased. "Mind your words, Jasmine. I am your Alpha."

"And I am your Luna. I refuse to be disregarded, Liam," I stated firmly.

Just as he was about to respond, his phone rang. His face lit up upon seeing the caller ID. It must be Mira. He answered without hesitation, grinning.

"Hi Liam," Mira said softly, "Did you see my message? You didn't reply. Are you coming?"

"Yes, I saw it. Of course I'm coming," he replied enthusiastically. "I'll be there shortly, don't worry."

My chest tightened at his evident joy. He finished getting ready and was about to depart.

I shook my head sadly. "You've just returned, Liam, and now you're leaving again," I said.

He rolled his eyes. "She invited me for dinner; it would be impolite to decline."

"Really, Liam? Are you going to leave me here tonight to have dinner with Mira?"

He sighed in exasperation. "Stop making this into something it's not. I'll be back tomorrow." He turned to leave.

My patience had worn thin. I gripped the bedsheets tightly and gritted my teeth.

"Liam!" I growled, "If you walk out that door, I'll reject you as my mate and raise this child alone!"

Liam paused and turned to me, eyebrow raised. However, upon realizing my seriousness, his expression softened.

"Come on, Jas. Mira needs me. She doesn't have anyone else here but me. I'm just trying to be a good friend."

Tears welled up in my eyes. He just couldn't grasp what I was trying to convey.

"Liam, you're choosing to help her at the cost of your own family," I interjected, my voice quavering as I fought back tears. "You're my mate, the father of our child. You should be here for us."

"Come on, Jas! You're my mate and my Luna! Isn't that enough for you?" He snapped in frustration.
