Chapter 6

After departing the event, I made my way to the guesthouse, unwilling to share a bed with him any longer. A sudden knock on the door jolted me back to reality. My spirits sank as I detected his distinctive scent—a potent blend of masculinity, wilderness, and impending storm. I instantly recognized it as Hunter. Despite my days of steeling myself, my heart raced as he entered uninvited.

"Ava." His baritone voice was composed yet intense, reminiscent of the calm before a tempest. His piercing eyes swept over me, pausing on the few pieces of luggage at my feet. "Sneaking away in the dead of night... What are you hoping to accomplish?"

I clenched my teeth. "This isn't a ploy, Hunter. I'm departing from the pack. For good." I maintained a steady, frigid tone.

He chuckled, though it sounded somewhat acrid. "Departing? You're well aware that omegas can't simply walk away from the bond."
