Chapter 5

Asher's hand rose, poised to strike me. But before it could land, Parker seized his wrist, speaking with a calm yet icy tone. "You might want to reconsider. Striking someone in front of an attorney isn't a smart decision."

Asher shot me a venomous look, his features contorted with rage, while Camilla stood behind him, her eyes wide with feigned surprise. She gestured at the items in my trolley, pretending to be shocked.

"My goodness, you're already purchasing new linens? Avery, I understand you're hurt, but isn't it rather soon to be moving in with someone else? This must be quite a shock for Asher!"

Asher's eyes flashed dangerously, but then his gaze dropped to my midsection, his expression turning pale. "Avery! What about...our child?"

I was wearing a form-fitting top that day, which highlighted my shape. At just a few months along, my belly showed only a slight swell. I let out a sarcastic chuckle. "I've already told you—the baby is no more."
