Asher messaged back, [Drop by.]

I had intended to take a taxi to my place, but after changing and exiting, Parker lowered his car window and shouted to me.

"Need a lift?"

It caught me off guard. As a high-profile attorney, Parker typically had a packed schedule. Yet here he was, grinning as he drove. "The office gave everyone the day off."

Why did he seem more thrilled about my marital split than I was?

Upon reaching the apartment complex, he said he'd wait at the entrance and asked me to find him once I was finished. I agreed and headed towards the place I'd called home for six years.

Just as I approached the building, a sudden dousing of cold water soaked me. I gazed upward to see Camilla leaning out from the second story.

"Oh my, Avery! I was just tending to my plants. I didn't see you there..." She offered an overly dramatic apology, but the hint of satisfaction in her eyes was unmistakable.

Not willing to put up with her charade, I struck her across the face.
