Chapter 8

Alex diligently aided the police in their investigation of the case. My burial was postponed as a result.

He scrutinized the crime scene repeatedly, but no evidence emerged.

In the meantime, Leona persisted in delivering meals to Alex, and he never turned her away or declined to meet her.

Leona prostrated herself outside the mansion, weeping as she begged for Alex's mercy. I had never imagined she could stoop so low.

I hadn't realized Leona could be so desperate. After all, what kind of person would involve themselves with a married man or their own stepbrother?

Within the mansion, Alex immersed himself in the investigation, thoroughly examining every potential suspect. Yet, despite his efforts, he hadn't even seen the individual who had committed the murder that day.

The men before me were all unfamiliar, as they were similar in height and build to the perpetrators from that day.
