Chapter 7

The coroner's findings arrived promptly. As my mother arrived at the police station with Kevin, I noticed the bearded Alex was there too.

His presence puzzled me. Why should he care about how I died?

The authorities handed the report to my mother first. Upon reading it, her previously agitated expression turned ashen.

She felt dizzy, as if the world was spinning, and nearly collapsed.

"Mom, are you okay? Let's get you to a hospital."

Alex stepped forward to assist my mother, but she shoved him away.

"Leave! Don't think I'm unaware that you abandoned Isabel because of your so-called stepsister!"

Alex felt a sharp pain in his heart. My mother's words cut deep, leaving him defenseless.

He picked up the report, noting that while the wound wasn't severe, I had died from excessive bleeding.

Indeed, if he had heeded Kevin's advice and rushed me to the hospital, I might have survived. Instead, he left me with Kevin, watching as blood flowed from my chest until I lost consciousness.
