CHAPTER 35

The only way to find out what Frank was hiding was to go with him. I needed answers, and I wasn't going to get them sitting around in the safe house. If I wanted to know what was really going on, I had to be out there, seeing things for myself.

I tried to remember the action movies I'd watched, the ones where the heroes prepared for dangerous missions. Since it was still daylight, I figured we'd be heading out at night. That gave me time to get ready—both mentally and physically.

I remembered scenes of intense training, though I wasn't exactly in shape for that. But one thing stuck out: meditation. The characters always took deep breaths, sitting cross-legged on the floor, focusing their minds.

So, I gave it a shot.

I sat on the floor, tucking my legs beneath me, and closed my eyes. I took slow, deep breaths, trying to clear my mind. The darkness behind my eyelids felt heavy, but I focused on it, letting it swallow my fear.

Because I was terrified.
