First Steps out of the Cave

Haa

I panted heavily as I tried to catch my breath. We have been fighting hard for the last two hours and I was exhausted. But I was feeling quite fulfilled at this point. I had improved my fighting significantly since we first started. From what I could tell I surprised the Fenrir greatly.

"Human... I think you may be worthy. But I need to hear one more thing. How did you get here in the first place. I watched as you materialized on the ground in our den so don't lie."

Shit, was it safe to tell her. Would she even believe me if I did tell her the truth. These thoughts were running through my head until a white light shot out of my chest. From the white light emerged a person no taller then a foot tall and let me just say she was one of the most beautiful beings I had ever seen.

She had pink hair that was in a pixie cut. Her eyes seemed to change color because I watched them change to different colors 4 times in the short seconds she had been out of my body. Speaking of bodies for a small woman she had huge proportions for her size and body type. If she was a full sized person she probably would stand par with Ayla.

[The host was reincarnated here. The goddess made his body exactly as it was on his lower realm world and sent him here. As you know the reincarnation process randomly drops the person on the world with no rhyme or reason.]

It was Sylph she had somehow come out of my system or where ever she normally resided and was right in front of me. I felt as though my jaw was trying to dislocate with how far it was dropping.

"Sy..Sylph Is that you?" I asked already knowing the answer. It was just hard for me to grasp. I have read plenty of novels in my downtime so I no a small amount about the systems and stuff. I was already surprised when I realized that the system was sentient. I had seen it in books but now that was real. I thought even if I could meet her down the road it wouldn't be until I was a super powerhouse, but here she is right in front of me.

Turning around at the sound of my question Sylph gave me a smile that took my breath away. Her beauty and cuteness where on a completely different level.

[Host, yes it is me. I felt it prudent to explain to her myself so she wouldn't think you are lying. As I am an administrator fairy she can sense my closeness to the divine. Isn't that right miss Silver Fenrir?]

"She is right. I wouldn't have believed you. But I can feel the energy coming out of this one and I know she isn't lying because of the hints of divine energy coming off of her." The Fenrir said with a bit sour of an expression.

[Oh don't be like that little girl. I already know.]

"Then if you know please go away."

[Fine but just know that this one is very different then the last one you met.]

From their conversation I was picking up on something big. This Silver Fenrir had already come into contact with another reincarnator. What was their relationship? What happened to make her have that expression on her wolf like face?

Before I could ponder too much longer, Sylph turned back into light and shot straight into my body. I looked at the Silver Fenrir and I could tell she was thinking about something deeply.

"What is your name Human?"

"Uh.. It is Axel Wolf." I told her my name quickly not wanting to seem rude after she had just taught me so much in that fight. I also had a question for her though. "Miss, I wanted to ask... Did you have a bad experience with another reincarnated person? Of course if you don't want to talk about it with me then I totally understand."

By the time I finished talking I was slightly out of breath because I had started talking so fast, truly worried I would anger her with my question. I was just too curious though.

She stared at me with her deep purple eyes that sparkled with intelligence. I could see her apprehension with me after hearing where I came from. Before she could think longer, I spoke again because I felt I had been a bit insensitive she could have had a lot of history with that person.

"Look, actually you don't have to tell me. I was being rude there. How about this, I give you your pack back and you just let me leave while telling me where the closest human city is."

As I was saying this I was also asking Sylph how I could break the contract with the other Fenrir. Waiting for her to answer I started releasing the other Fenrir and before she could talk all of the Fenrir had been released.

Unbeknownst to me all of the other Fenrir behind me had sorrowful and downcast looks on their faces. They could feel my emotions before I released them and knew me probably better then myself.

The Silver Fenrir just stared at me. She didn't speak and I didn't notice the shock hiding behind her blank eyes. Finally feeling awkward with the silence I couldn't handle it anymore .

Turning towards the Black Fenrir closest to me I asked if it could lead me outside. Hiding its sorrowful expression it nodded at me and we walked away without looking back. I felt it to be to awkward to look back.

*Silver Fenrir's POV*

Watching the human walk away after releasing my pack, I didn't know how to feel. From my understanding of it from personal experience with reincarnators, they are all horrible.

Granted I could feel something different with this man, but I can't trust another. Not after what happened. To be honest if I wasn't scared of the divine wrath I would have immediately killed him just for a semblance of revenge against that person.

The Black Fenrir came back shortly afterwards and would not look at me so I asked her directly.

"Is that human gone?" To my question she still didn't look at me but did nod her head.

"Hmph, good he was probably just like the rest of them just going to use us then throw us aw--"

Before I could finish my statement, literally every single one from my pack turned towards me fury on their faces. 'You have know idea what we felt. That human was truly different then the others. We could feel his emotions, we could see his past and what happened to him and what he did in his past life. As matter of fact I am not staying in this pack any longer. I am going to find him, I want to be apart of his pack.'

The Black Fenrir that had led him out of our den. The second strongest among us besides myself, just declared she was leaving. I couldn't believe it.

"Fine! Leave then and when he betrays you don't come crawling back here for my protection. My pack and I will stay here safe from that man and your stupidness."

The younger Fenrir bristled at my words and without saying anything else, she turned and ran out of the den. I watched her go sighing because, well, I knew she was right about the boy I could see it and feel it in the way he was fighting me. He truly was a good soul.

Turning towards the rest of my pack I saw them all staring at me. It looked almost as if they were mad at me. I looked a little better and felt our bonds to understand them better. They were mad, but they had a multitude of other emotions going through their hearts. But the one that stood out the most was the disappointment they felt in me as their alpha.

*Axel's POV*

Alone again I couldn't help but feel a twinge in my heart as I walked through this fantastical forest. I could see towering trees and plants I have never heard of before. I could see small creatures running here and there just minding their own business.

I sighed thinking about what had just transpired but I knew I couldn't go back and make it up to her. I just needed to take the example of these small creatures and just mind my business.

[Host, I am sorry I didn't think she would have reacted this way. But I kne-]

"Sylph, it's ok." Cutting her off because I didn't want to talk about it. I had a feeling that the quest was a failure anyways. I didn't even want to check my stats as I knew I had gained a lot when fighting the Silver Fenrir.

[Host, I have to ask why didn't you complete the contract with her?]

Sylph I could tell was just asking out of curiosity so I explained myself to her slowly.

"Sylph, I wouldn't force her because of her word. How could I feel ok with myself like that. If someone is clearly opposed to the idea of being near then I do not want them near me. I am not someone who forces or begs people to stay. If they don't want to be here they can leave whenever they feel the need to."

[Okay host I understand. Do you want to look at your status to see yo-]

"I am sorry Sylph but not right now. I think I need to just be focused on leaving this forest right now and not dying in the process." I felt bad but at the same time I just wanted to concentrate on something different.

[Of course host. I am hear if you need anything.]

I responded with a hum and continued to walk. I just didn't know how much trouble I was getting myself into walking aimlessly.

*Black Fenrir POV*

I came out of the den and looked left and right trying to find signs of the man that had left. I smelt the air and found his scent. But when I realized the way the man started walking I ran at my full speed to stop him.

The beast in that direction is extremely territorial. If he finds a human in his territory he will kill him before asking any question. As I was running I felt his presence. The beast was closing in on where I smelt the human.

I needed to be faster. I had to save him.

*AAWOOOOO*

I howled and called upon my power of wind to hasten my speed.

*FWOOSH*

I had a green aura surround me as my power flared. I shot off into the brush leaving only the swaying plants and rustling branches in my wake.
