On The Side Of Humans!

Just as Celina expected, it was a long month. Her training began the very morning after she found herself in the Goblins' village. Just as it was difficult for her to learn healing magic, it was almost the same with stealth skills. She had no idea if it was her not understanding the basics or if the goblins weren't teaching her well.

They expect her to learn the moves and everything after seeing them display. It was difficult. One second, they are here; the next seconds, they appear at the other tree. There was no sound from them.

After training the skills, she'd leave to the forest at night to practice her other abilities and also, to hunt for the goblins. She killed a lot of beasts she had never seen before. It was also an opportunity for her to enhance her sword skills.

After three months, she was finally done with her training with the goblins. Her stats increased drastically and something shocked her even more.

'Three months with the goblins increased my level from 16 to 18. My senses are above 100. I guess what the system said is true. My stats are over 1000. For now, I'm still the weakest'

She mumbled under her breath, as she studied her status screen.

The goblin chief, Fizzle, watched her staring into the thin air. He suddenly cleared his throat and placed a hand on her shoulder. She flinched and turned to meet his gaze. Blin was by his side, smiling at her.

"Since you've successfully learnt from us, you should head to the troll village. It's just a few walks from here," he said, with an indifferent look on his face.

"Er... Good luck then" he added before turning away. Blin stepped closer, her tattered clothes barely covering her body. But, she didn't mind. She handed Celina a bundle of meat, wrapped in leaves.

"You should take this. Once you get over there, it'll be difficult to find food for yourself" she said, patting Celina's head. She accepted it and bowed. She wanted to store it in her inventory, but she couldn't do that in front of them.

She finally left there as they waved at her. She would have gone back to the elves' village to see them, including Eira, but she didn't. She went straight to the trolls' village. She had no idea how much more training she had to go through.

....

Celina, after walking for the whole day finally reached the mountain where the trolls were said to reside. She couldn't see anyone around, just like when she arrived at the Goblins' village. But, she could sense their presence. They were all around, watching her.

Suddenly, she felt something approaching her high speed. She waited for the perfect timing before turning and seeing another familiar face. The same old troll that wanted to eat her while she was a baby.

He froze, seeing that he was noticed. He's so massive and grotesque. His claws were stained with blood and his long teeth were protruding from his mouth.

"You're the human girl"

"I'm Celi..."

"I don't care. You're here for your training. I hope you learn quickly and leave the mountain. We don't welcome people into our territory, especially humans" he said coldly. She stood there, hiding the nervousness on her face.

"The only thing stopping me from gobbling you up is my respect for lord Aetherius. There is no time for rest; we'll start immediately. From now on, call me Zogg" he said.

Celina nodded. She had no time to rest. She stared at her palm, which was red and rough; since she had spent three months holding the sword and training, there was no time to rest.

'Should I run away or... No, I should be grateful. When all of this is over, I'll be able to leave from here'

She thought to herself and started listening to Zoggs' little speech. His articulation was a bit difficult for her to understand because of his huge teeth, but she listened to him anyway.

While it was nighttime in the Lost City, in the outside world, where the humans were, tragedy unfolded.

In the largest kingdom of the empire, corpses were lined up near the palace's main gate. The other knights who were injured or missing a limb or two were being attended to by a few healers and physicians.

The commander, though sad after losing a lot of his men, kept a stoic expression. His silver helmet rested under his arm as one of the king's guards approached him.

"Sir Rowan, the king has summoned you"

"..."

Rowan took one last glance at his men before leaving with the king's guards. He arrived at the king's palace and stood outside the door.

After a few minutes of standing, he heard the king's voice, and he entered the office.

The king seemed like the busiest person in the kingdom. His desk had piles and piles of untouched documents.

"I greet His Imperial Majesty" he went down on one knee. The king walked past him and settled onto the couch at the centre of the office.

"Let's skip the formalities. Sit" he ordered. Rowan stood up and sat opposite the king, placing his helmet on his lap.

"I heard you lost a lot of your men. Twenty? Thirty?" The king asked, with no glimpse of sympathy on his face. It was almost as if he didn't feel sorry for the lives that were lost. After all, he was the one who ordered them to raid the dungeon.

"We lost a total of twenty-six men, my king"

"Hold a mass burial and compensate their families. I presume you bring the same bad news" he said.

"I apologise, my king. Those creatures guarding the dungeon are too numerous and strong"

"That's why I sent you to explore it. And still, you return with the same bad news, just like the other commanders" His eyes darkened. It already seems strange enough that goblins and elves are working together, but to see other creatures with them. There's something wrong with all of these dungeons"

"I apologise, my king", Rowan said, lowering his head.

"An apology won't fix this. I expected better from you, the youngest commander, yet you... you failed me, Rowan. I want you to step down"

"Your Majesty!" Rowan stood abruptly from the couch, as he dropped to his knees. "Please, grant me another chance. I swear I will bring good news"

"It's too late. You have two years to hand over the title to the vice commander. After that, you'll become the third prince's guard. In that period, he'll head to the academy; you must prepare to follow him then" The king stood up and walked towards his desk.

Rowan couldn't argue with the king. He clenched his fist as he gritted his teeth.

"Your words are my order, Your Majesty," he said, rising to his feet.

The king ignored him as he exited the office. He grabbed a blank sheet of paper and dipped his pen into the ink.

"I suppose I'll have to hand this task over to the Dragon Slayer from Lurris kingdom. He better not fail me too". He muttered.
