Chapter 7

Mr. Cooper gazed at me, his expression betraying a mix of hope and anxiety.

His words left me momentarily stunned. The idea of reconciling with Steven had never crossed my mind. In truth, such a worthless individual was perfectly suited for the Cooper family.

The urgency in his tone was apparent, but it was too late for the Coopers to make things right.

At present, nothing would please me more than for him to remain as far away as possible.

My response visibly startled Mr. Cooper. After a pause, he inquired, "In that case, Miss Adams, regarding the business arrangement between our families..."

"I'm afraid," I cut in decisively, "any partnership between our families is now out of the question."

I addressed Mr. Cooper calmly, adding, "After all, we have no shortage of superior business associates to choose from."
