Chapter 6

Charlie returned with Miranda a fortnight after their sketching expedition. He suddenly recalled that in two days' time, I was due for my three-month pregnancy check-up.

After ensuring Miranda was settled, he hurried home, plagued by an ominous feeling that had been lingering since he missed the previous appointment.

This uneasiness had begun the day he crossed boundaries with Miranda, discarding his principles to indulge in her attention. In that moment of weakness, I had become secondary in his thoughts.

However, four weeks had passed without any contact from me. No phone calls or messages had come, and his own texts remained unanswered, seemingly lost in the ether.

Charlie dashed to the apartment, only to be greeted by an eerie quiet upon arrival.

The home's interior had been altered. My possessions were nowhere to be seen, and a fine layer of dust covered the furnishings.
